Retrofitting 2019 Steering Wheel on 2018 Model

I was wondering is anyone tried retrofitting the new upgraded 2018 steering wheel on 2019 model ? I am assuming you would need new wheel, trim, airbag at the very least? Just really like the look of the new steering wheel.

Yes it works. You need the wheel. Airbag and new "i have no idea how this is called in english" the part where your Distronic Control arm is. Because you will use it via the new steering wheel after.
And it needs some coding after. You cant use the new Steering wheels with the Display Sattelites but any E & S-Class one.

i have not yet but i already bought all the parts needed. Friends of mine did it already. The parts i mentioned under the picture. Coding is a 2min job everyone should be able to do it. i have the S-Class Airbag with Leather and will paint the covers black like edition1. And full Alcantara on the Steering Wheel. Posting pictures in my thread when finished.

It's called the MRM unit or steering column unit.

2018 E63s
I would be very interested to know more details. I would like to do this as well if I don’t lose any existing functionality. Do you know if you get a 2019 wheel with heated functionality will the heating work n the 2018 e63?

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
I've researched this topic over the past 9 months to include the new AMG Control Unit buttons and was provided the info from another member who made the change on his GLS AMG.

IMO, if you're going to acquire the new wheel it might as well have the AMG Control Unit buttons; assuming it's configurable to the car based on the VIN. The service department will have to verify the VIN compatibility for the particular car. Since I currently have my eye on a MY18 AMG E63s I am keenly interested in what anyone can find out and I will be doing the same this week so expect an update when I get one.

In the US, the 2019 model had the upgraded steering wheel, the 2018 had the original... OP is right..

Is it replica wheel? doesn't look like factory one.

Took a while but I was told by a dealership that the 2018 E63s in which I am interested IS NOT able to retrofit the AMG Drive Unit controls therefore no reason to fit the facelifted steering wheel.
