Fit/Finish and materials used

So I had a 2006 W211 E63 which was a pretty solid car. The interior materials used held up to heat and time and stayed in place and did not rattle or squeak. The switch gear was solid. Overall a great car.

Now I have a 2014 W212 E63S and have noticed the materials used and the fit/finish is not very good. There are many rattles from different areas depending on the temperature. It seems the plastics used are not as quality. Pushing on a button for example will produce a plastic feel and slight plastic sound. Overall I have been disappointed with the W212.

My question, has Mercedes made progress/improvements with the W213 in terms of the interior materials used and fit/finish/quality? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

2019 E63 S
I think the fit and finish and quality of the interior materials in my 2019 W 213 E63 is vastly better than my 2015 W 212 E. 63 was. However I see they downgraded from Alcantara headliner to regular cloth headliner as standard equipment (Alcantara headliner (Dynamica in Mercedes speak is a $1600 option). Other than that everything else seems much better.

I've done 1300 miles in mine and hear the odd squeak over bumps, only repeatable one is on the console armrest which creaks if I place my arm certain ways. The wagon is a cavern, so I'm assuming you'll hear a lot more noises than say the sedan. There are less creaks in my 2017 Acura RDX however.

Interesting. My arm rest creaks as well.

I have a 2007 Escalade with 185k on the clock with less rattles than my E63S for example. I would expect the opposite.

I also can hear some creaking which seems to be coming from the windows or door panels when I go over certain bumps. Other than that, mine is very solid. The fit and finish is very good.

E63S Wagon
I got a good one, 2020 wagon...no creaks and damn near perfection on interior details. My wife's 2020 GLS580 interior fit and finish, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. Luckily it is a lease and we will hand that thing back. I am going to attempt to get a new passenger seat when we take it in for service...it'd be nice if a few of the seams actually lined up.

I had a 2014 E63 and it had rattles and squeaks after 50K miles, the W213 E63s so far feels much more refined and better built. Every touch surface feels better and there are no rattles or squeaks.

Vic could probably answer that but we replaced our W213 E63s with a M8 Comp coupe. Our AMG was solid with virtually no creaks apart from the noise when the passenger seat belt hit the side of the performance seats. BMW feels a bit more solid but that car has a carbon core body.
Interior design is a question of taste. I really like the more organic look of the AMG but the M8 has a higher-end interior. Tech is also better (super slow Comand). The AMG still has a good amount of plastic (lower door panels, lower dash) and fabric headliner.
I think the M5 is more on par...

Thank you for the replies. I also had the question about BMW and their latest offerings and fit/finish/quality of materials. That facelift M5 Comp is a stunner for sure!

Not sure about squeaks and rattles, but after driving a few F90 M5s, I thought the interior was on par for a 35K 3 series. It doesn't make you feel special, and I hated the Idrive even if it responds faster than the MB command. I can overlook the slightly slower E63, but there is no excuse for that interior. Not a fan, of the exterior styling either. E63 was an easy decision for me.

same
it’s a couple bucks more a month to run an e63s lease wise compared to an m5 but to me it’s worth it for the exhaust alone
you’d need a $3,000-$7,000 exhaust on an m5 to be competitive with our stock exhaust note

if you guys haven’t, tune your ecu + tcu + cpc

should be able to get them all for $1,500 a piece * 3 = $4,500

night and day

as far as i can tell, the engines and transmissions can take it

just... don’t launch
i’m probably making 150whp more than stock on just tunes, very daily drivable

plus with the exhaust flaps open permanently, great noise all around

That sound may be a faulty window channel. If you crack the window a hair, does it go away?

When I described this to my SA he knew what it was immediately and replaced under warranty

op - i have a 2018 and love it more each day. Enjoy!
