Awful experience with new E63S

New to me but not brand new.

Disaster start to E63S ownership which I bought from a Merc main dealer (Colindale London).

1. Noticed a juddering at high speed which shook the whole car so took it to Bristol Merc (local) who told me three out of four wheels need replacing as one is buckled and two have flat spots, at a cost of £4k. Colindale Merc disagree and now want the car back to do their own checks.

2. Piece of trim fallen off the seat

3. Car needs oil already as had an add oil message pop up so clearly they didn’t check it

4. Steering column doesn’t move up or down, seems something is broken.

5. Auto tail gate is temperamental and doesn’t always work

6. They want to drive it to London and back and put more miles on it to figure it all out.

7. Mileage was 800 higher than advertised when I picked it up.

Had a decent bank holiday trip planned with it which is now up in the air. They’ll give me a C63 cab for the weekend but not the same really. They'll also give me a free service but I am so fed up already I am not sure I should carry on.

I have spoken to a number of other people and everyone has said I should reject the car.

Thoughts?

It is a 67 plate so late 2017 early 2018 time period. Reg is DK67OPE if this was anyone's car before? If so, I guess you had a lot of fun in it.

since I am too familiar on how used vehicle is prepped in UK, they should have done a very detailed checking of the entire car before releasing to the customer. Not sure what other recourse this dealer has offered you, if you have the option to get out and get back all your money, then you should consider it and then get another one from somewhere else, if available.

The vibration is probably the most concerning one. Did you not test drive and inspect the car before paying for it and taking delivery? Seems like some of the issues should have been discovered during a test drive and inspection. The low oil warning could be a faulty oil sensor, make sure you check with the dipstick. Faulty oil sensors are not unusual. My brand new '19 C63S coupe threw a low oil warning the day after I picked it up from the factory. I was traveling in Europe for two months with it, and it regularly threw the low oil warning. Oil level was fine according to the dipstick and I even stopped by a dealership to double-check. Once the car arrived in the USA it threw the low oil warning a few more times and they replaced the sensor during the Service A. It's been all good since then.

I assumed that coming from a Merc Main dealer it would have been OK, stupidly it seems! I genuinely didn't think they would sell an E63S in this condition. Not sure I would have picked up all these issues on a test drive either as sometimes you need to live with a car to fully understand it. I am really disheartened and am looking for another E63S.

I will check the dipstick as well.

One would think that they thoroughly inspect a car and correct all the issues before selling it, unfortunately it's better to verify for oneself. True that you might not have picked up on all the issues, but even just one or two would be a red flag for me and make me wonder what else was missed or make me suspect that the car wasn't more than glanced over. Not to worry you more, but these engines are not known to burn oil, so if the oil is indeed low, that would concern me.

Mileage 800 higher than agreed upon on pickup would be enough for me to laugh in that Store GM's face and walk out of there.

Don’t bother with oil level. This car has been abused and not worth the money you paid. Return the car if you can, use your money to get another E63s - suggest getting 2nd opinion/thorough check out before signing the contract.

MB UK are now involved as I’m really fed up now.

Let’s see what they come back with.

Car has been rejected. I can just see more and more issues with it in the future. I took to Twitter and the AMG support team on Friday and things moved very quickly.

Got a C63s cab on loan for the weekend whilst they have been finding me another E63S. The C63S cab feels so much comfortable and nicer on a long drive than the E63S, which shouldn’t be the case.

They have just sent me a spec sheet on one which has exactly the same options, colour, but is two months newer and has 2000 less miles.

The cynic in me wonders if they are selling me back the same car. However imagine the legal case against them.

I have asked them to reserve the car for me for now.

The first car should never have left their workshop but at least the sales guys have been doing their bit.

Hopefully a new car next week......

Also looking at buying an AMG E63S

I'm looking at buying this (https://www.carmax.com/car/19175895)E63S from car max and while I was on the 30minute test drive a warning message appeared saying the car needs a quart of oil added. Now I see your story and I'm worried. I didn't feel any vibrations and my other issues were minor and cosmetic. Any advice?

These are hugely temperamental and complicated machines. Go CPO, low mileage, and single owner or don't at all. Not worth the headaches.

Just to add that Colindale Mercedes now don't agree to give my next service free as verbally agreed with the sales guy. Cowboys.

verbal agreement seldom gets validated. Should always be in written form.

Absolutely. You’d think after the mess they would offer some good will or come and speak to me personally when I got the car but nope.

Customer service a thing of the past. We live and learn.

Sorry to hear about your experience - I would recommended getting a late 2018/ early 2019 model that way many kinks have been sorted out by MB.

If they take the problem vehicle back, then what's to service? Some other car you buy?
