Does Driving In Sport+ Cause Significantly Worse MPG?

Just a question, I do typically drive in sport+. I don't really drive aggressively as I usually have the baby with me, maybe some but Im not launching the car or anything and it seems like Im getting maybe 8 mpg which is way lower than the window sticker claims. My RS6 had the same issue. Do you get more mpg driving around in say comfort vs sport+ if you drive the same? I just like how rigid the car feels in sport+ and the exhaust note of course. Most of my driving is city driving, rarely do I get on the highway but Im pretty shocked how bad the mpg are.

Don’t care much about fuel economy at all. Just enjoy the drive and feel the power. If I care fuel economy, I would buy a Prius.

ha! I don’t care money wise but it’s a bit irritating considering I don’t really drive too much having to fill up every 5-6 days. When I fill it says 245 miles and I’m getting nowhere near that.

I’m getting like 13 mpg for the last 3.5 yrs of ownership (90% local roads driven). I drive 90% in sport mode and the other 10% in sport + / race

You'll get better mileage in comfort mode. In that mode you get the eco stuff which can make a difference. In sport and more so in sport+ the transmission stays in lower gears longer which means more rpms per mile/KM travelled.

Sport+ completely ignores fuel economy down to the higher idle. Sport is a much better balance if you care about fuel economy.

Watch out for your driving habits around your baby...they learn quick!!!

Back in 2002, when my boy was three years-old, I had a 1996 Impala SS making 494 HP thanks to a 150hp nitrous system, it was a fun car, which later was traded for an E55. I digressed, I picked up my son from daycare on the Impala, we caught a red light, nothing unusual, a few seconds after I stopped:

Son- "Daddy go eeeee"
I asked- "what?!"
Son- "Daddy go eeeee"
I tell him- "I don't understand what you want, need to pee??"
Son- "No Daddy, go eeeee"
I respond- "I don't understand what you're talking about" Poor kid could barely talk at that time, so he couldn't really explain himself!

So, when the light turns green I take off my usual...peel tires off the line (no nitrous, just motor)...then my son yells "YES DADDY GO EEEE!!!!"

Then I realized what he was telling me, funny though...but it made me rethink the example and habit I was creating for my son.

It makes sense that Sport + surely uses much more gas since all system are on high output ready to blast you off.

S+ changes all the shift points and pretty much erases the top gears with long legs unless you force it to use them. So, in short yes, you should see a pretty sizeable drop in any kind of fuel economy. Combine that with mostly city driving and you are probably getting about the right consumption numbers

Sport+ will typically have the trans is 7th on the highway and you need to manually shift up to 9th. Then if you aren't paying attention it will find itself back to 7th again. So on a longer trip it will impact mileage somewhat.

I drive around toggling forth and back between Sport+ or Race mode mostly except for parking lots or really low speed putting around but once I'm out on the interstate and settled down I typically bump it to comfort.

Because my commute to the office is so short, driving to work and back (pre CV-19) my mileage was around 12 mpg or so. Running around town for longer trips it goes up to 14+. On the highways it's 18 to 20ish usually.

I have noticed that when in sport plus it won’t go into 9th on the freeway. It will stay in 7th. So if you are just cruising on the freeway, might as well throw it over to comfort.

8k miles or so in sport+ mode, 14mpg average over lifetime. best tank was 18.1mpg.
second what others say... fuel consumption wasn't a concern with this beast.
