^^^Awesome! Perfect color for that car. I drove one of these recently and it was an amazing experience. Transports you back to a different era.

This brown doesn't exactly translate well in photos. In person it looks a shade or two darker than this picture, even in direct sun. I think the carbon fiber provides a cool contrast to the brown. Big fan of two-tone interiors, particularly when the upper sections are all black.

I've been a big car nut as long as I can remember and a fan of Porsche early-on. I always liked and appreciated the 356's design, what it meant to Porsche's early days and influence on its future. Turns out, they're pretty fun to drive as well (driving a slow car fast is more fun than a fast car slow!). One day in 2014 while visiting a friend (and fellow car nut) in Chicago, we went to his shop (356 Works) to pickup his 356 from service. While there, the owner (Tom Funk, RIP) asked "hey, would any of you guys be interested in this 356? It's here for service and the owner wants me to get rid of it." Turns out that owner was Susan Pritzker. Her husband, Nicholas Pritzker (Hyatt Group), had bought it for her in the early 80's and this mechanic had been taking care of it ever since. So, I raised my hand and we made a deal. I left the car there and had them restore it pretty thoroughly, mechanically and cosmetically. I repainted it in the original Light Ivory (it was red at the time). The restoration took about 3yrs and turned out great.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Wow, what a story and had it restored to Concours quality.

By the way, didn't you own a Porsche Macan at one time and traded it for an Audi RS-6? Your user ID looks familiar.

I hope, for your sake, that will occur. However, wagons are the lowest production volume of the E63S and I would profer that the sedans might get priority. Sorry that you're caught up in the production halt.

Does this mean no more AMG V8's except for the S-class? The V8 is not available in the 2022 AMG C-class either.

According to "Remove Before Race," who's been accurate in the past, the new 4.0L V8T hybrid system (E73) will be going into E's and up AMG vehicles:

Wassaby, where did this come from? I passed it along to my dealer and they said they're not seeing this info anywhere in MB's system? Thanks

If accurate, I wonder if the delay has anything to do with transitioning the AMG vehicles to the new "73e" hybrid-V8 drivetrain. That'd be kind of interesting to me. As long as my snarling V8 is still there, maybe a little electric assist wouldn't be such a bad thing? 🤔

In NETSTAR under NEWS. It came in yesterday. Don't shot the messenger but the word out there is that we may never see the 2022 released. If they cannot get them certified in Europe...is done until the new V8 Hybrid. For those who want to grab a 2021, the situation is not better. The at the dealer inventory is low and the majority of the ones at VPC are under HERMES module delay and it require a signed agreement from customer in order to have it shipped to the dealer. Otherwise those cars will stay at VPC until Q1 of 2022 when expected module is available.

Ah, thanks, but no that’s not great news for MY22’s. They sell a lot more vehicles in North America than they do Europe, and you would think they could continue to export them even if this EU certification thing is an issue for Europe. Although, perhaps they’re not permitted to export vehicles that don’t achieve that certification? Wouldn’t surprise me given how the europeans handle regulation…

So, the Telematics moduLe is missing from the cars at the VPC for just the E63S or all E-class vehicles? Wow!

Not all E63 but the majority of them, plus many of the all other Mercedes models. If the customer signs a release agreement then he can have the car and the module will be install next year. If the customer doesn't sign the agreement the car will not be shipped to the dealer until the module is installed.

So, basically, ME, emergency calling, traffic information, software updates, theft protection, etc will not function. Why would a user release the car and incur these liabilities? I know that this is a world-wide shortage of the HERMES module, not just in the US. Must be a lot of cars piling up at the VPC.

What liabilities? The HERMES module in my 2020 wagon fritzed out on me and didn’t work a for a few months until I finally got it replaced. Didn’t matter at all, with the only annoyance being no remote starting. I’m surprised they’re not shipping the cars out and simply asking the dealers to read a little disclaimer that a few convenience features won’t work until the replacement part arrives. Silly…

So, for example, if you get into a traffic accident and the communications module is not working, then you will not get location information to find you while you are pinned in your car with life threatening injuries. It's not silly, just prudent.

You must be an attorney. Without HERMES, the car is the same as any other car I own or have ever owned. There are legal technicalities and practical realities, let’s not be pedantic.

I can confirm this….

I just signed my release this morning. My E 53 has been on order since late January and arrived at port last Saturday. My dealer said it’s to be installed as soon as it’s available. I’ve been driving for over 30 years and never used those features so wasn’t a big deal to wait a bit for them rather than waiting for who knows how long on the car in port. First world problems I guess.

Congrats on your new ride. Were you offered any compensation for the missing module? The outlook from MB is Jan. 2022 for the installation.

no, I didn’t ask….honestly I feel at this point I’m fortunate that I got the car with all the mess going on. I did get several % off MSRP and put a deposit down in January so from the stories I’ve read, that’s pretty good. There are hardly any E 53s out there.
