My 2022 Build

Recently finalized 2022 wagon build. Locked. Color will be a surprise. It'll be a non-MB color. Exterior in night package, black forged wheels and no carbon fiber. Plan on getting BBS wheels at some point if I can figure out fitment. Interior will be exactly as my last one with chestnut brown leather and carbon fiber trim. Only options I skipped are HUD and carbon fiber exterior and engine cover. Sadly, due to chip shortages, they removed my dashcam and augmented reality. Could care less about augmented reality but was looking forward to integrated dash-cam. (All cars should come with integrated dash-cams.)

Hoping they fix the front camera placement and bring back the IWC clock, but both are highly improbable. I really miss not having this wagon right now.

Looking forward to a November/December delivery!

Dashcam is fun, but you're not missing much. It does not stay on all the time. You have to remember to start it when you start up the car, and its buried a few menus deep. Also it requires a USB drive to work, and a fairly large one (like 128GB or so).

Same with Augmented Reality. Its a novelty. It is useful when you're out of town and don't know an area really well. But around town, its more novelty than useful. I actually turned mine off.

I don't regret having these two items, but if I did not have them I it would not matter much.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Sucks having to go through menus to get to a simple function (that should be a button). Reminds me how MB's user-interface is a cumbersome mess. I'd settle for none of it. Just give me buttons. Nobody needs three ways to interact with a car.

Good luck, man. I finally got an allocation for my wagon after almost two years with a build date of 3rd decade of July. Car started production last month but status hasn’t changed in a while, isn’t looking good for being complete by the end of the month. I know there are folks with MY21 allocations that are still waiting for their car to finish production…I’m not counting my chickens till she’s on the boat.

Maybe Porsche Chalk? Don't no why but the color is growing on me. Good luck with the build hopefully it moves along quickly.

You can set the dashcam to continuous recording on a loop. I have a 1TB SSD dedicated to that purpose in the center console. The augmented reality is really useful when trying to find a destination in an unfamiliar area.

Are you going to be satisfied with the current interface limitations? The front camera will not be in a different location for 2022 either. The non-MB color will add at least 8-12 weeks to any production slot. I wish you well on this new build.

2022 E53 AMG
Hello, new member to the MBWorld community here.

I ordered my 2021 E53 coupe this past March, since I'm financing the vehicle it's been upgraded to a 2022 model so happy about that. Unfortunately, because of supplier shortages and packages being altered I will be losing the Multicontour Front Seats with Massage (really wanted this feature), Heated Armrests, Enhanced Heated Front Seats, and the Dash Cam. I did get to add the Edition 429 package which I think will go well with my build since I've added all the AMG packages. My salesman informed me my vehicle will be ready for the August allocation, would've been the June allocation but since I didn't add the Intelligent Drive Package I have to wait until August.

Any idea when I'll get my E53 delivered? I'm in Toronto, Canada

Agree on FG, and I think I know what it is but I won’t spoil! I’m a classic Porsche guy and I know what MB offers, not too many choices. 😉

I’m surprised you’re going night package and black wheels! I thought you were dead-set on a “classic” theme? Regardless, I’m sure it’ll look great. I’m really tempted to get a custom color but I’m already looking at a year without an AMG wagon as it is and couldn’t stand any additional wait—and the rather large cost doesnt help either, give me CCB’s instead. 2022 wagon, 1D November here, hopefully have it by the end of the year. I keep hearing the chip shortages are easing lately but I’m skeptical.

^^^Thanks! Sounds like you know your Porsche colors and it was a fairly easy guess. I wanted a classic build but decided that it didn't have to mean chrome trim. Struggled on interior trim too. Really torn between carbon fiber and the dark glossy wood. Decided on carbon fiber because I loved it so much last time and also compliments my exterior color. (Hint, hint.) As far as the black wheels it was a matter of default. Had the silver forged and didn't like them. Hate the new standard wheels with the saucer center and huge AMG logo. So black was the default. Have the 2020 standard wheels on order too. Love those.

Igooz: That's a lot to give up but I've heard of people getting stuff they said wasn't available at the time of order. Either way it'll be an amazing car. Good luck.

MO3AMG: Thank you. Hope it's a gamble that will pay off.

I skipped the dashcam on my wagon because it was only forward recording and I prefer both front/rear for total viewing.

Wow, great point. They could've easily improved upon the dashcam. Nevertheless, I give MB credit for integrating something so useful. Should be required. Amazing how all the advantages and innovations at Tesla haven't made there way to all manufacturers by now.

Yes the interior trim is a real struggle on this car for some reason (lol). I also had the carbon on my last car and loved it, and I’m also intrigued by the glossy brown ash but I’d prefer a darker shade of brown and every photo I’ve seen makes it look more medium in tone. Every other car Ive owned had glossy trim and its always the same story, dust and scratches, so I thought I’d give the matte black ash a shot—should wear well and easy to maintain, just dust it. Half the choices seem like a waste of space, like the aluminum options. Too much surface area on the trim for bright aluminum, dominates the dash and hard/cold looking imo. Flowing lines are interesting and would look nice on any interior, but that piano black center console would look like hell within a few months so I passed.

Yes! Many of the E63 trims are absolutely hideous. Dozen choices but really none at all. MB should offer all the trims of the G-wagon on the lowly E-class. Mercedes does the carbon fiber as well as anyone. It's really the only special trim and looks amazing with any leather, especially the darker shades like black and brown. Catch the sun hitting it just right and you'll likely never pick another trim. IMHO carbon fiber timeless.

I agree that MB has some, if not the best technology in the industry but slightly missed it on the dashcam without the rear facing recording. I came over from Porsche and even though they are known for good performance and handling they sure are years behind in technology. I only had my wagon for three weeks and couldn't be happier. Actually, I could because the break-in period is a killer!

The dark brown ash (glossy) looks very refined. In Germany, one can also order Burled Walnut and Alder wood. The choices here are set by MBUSA. The same goes for the paint colors. It's ridiculous to limit the color palette to dark shades of grey or black. It would be nice to have a choice of a light non-metallic grey, a dark green, and additional red and blue. Other E-class cars have those colors and are going down the same paint line so it's not an issue of stopping production for one car if it was set to be produced.

Call me a skeptical speculator, but I’m pretty sure they know they have hooks in us if you want an E63 and especially a wagon. So limit choices and force them into our super duper (pricey) custom program, they have the money and they’ll pay to be different. That’s what I’d do anyway. At the lower end, people can just go somewhere else, don’t care as much. Although, doesn’t really explain why the G-wagon program is so inclusive…but maybe they sell a lot more of those (seems like it) and it works out for that model. Dunno, but I’m sure this is all very calculated.

Bottom line, it’s clearly a total scam to charge E63’s $10k for a color that the next E350 in line is getting as a standard no-cost color…
