All season tire choices
Tire Rack is now stocking 3 different tire manufacturers for all seasons: Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone. I've had the Bridgestone's on my 2018 E63S without any issues. I'm going to order a set of tires for my 2021 wagon. My thought is for Michelin PS4-AS this time. Thoughts on selections? I live in Raleigh NC which hardly sees significant snow, but the temps in the winter can get below 20 degrees for an extended period. Thanks for input.

go fast grocery getter wagon
I have the Michelin 4 a/s ones. Logged in about 5,000km so far. Put them on this past April and no experience yet on wintry conditions. My impression thus far … dry grip is alright, nowhere near the grip of the 4s. Wet traction is probably better than 4s. Ride for sure is not as harsh as 4s. For the $ saved over a set of 4s, I can live with the tradeoffs

I am having many thoughts on this issue. One side wants the summer/winter for maximum performance, the other side says all seasons to eliminate the swapping. I am sure I do not drive anywhere near the limit of a all season tire. We do get some snow but I can always work from home and they get the streets plowed pretty fast. Leaning toward the DWS in stock size on stock wheels, car is a lease and will go back in a few years anyway.

I picked up my wagon on Feb 4. The weather turned moderately cold the next week (temps between 32 and 40) and a bit wet. The PS4 tires were skipping at slow speed coming out of my driveway, during parking maneuvers, and on the streets. My 2018 E63S had Bridgestone all season tires installed for a couple of years so I forgot what happens to summer tires when the temps are below 45. I will certainly change my shoes on my 2021 before Fall. BTW, the Bridgestone's had over 26000 miles on them when I turned in the car. The measured tread depth was 7mm meaning there was probably another 15k-20k miles left before they needed to be changed out.

I am trying to make a decision sooner than later, I figure they will run out of stock at some point due to all the issues going on with shipping and manufacturing.

AMG E63 Hammer Wagon. Alfa, Rover, Ferrari, Porsche.
The new Continental DWS 06+ seems like a solid choice. It did better in testing than the Pilot AS4. Surprised the AS4 didnt test better as Michelin has been knocking it out of the park lately. Test data and user reviews both complain about tire noise, which is no bueno in our car (so so acoustical insulation).

I already have a second set of OEM 20’s with Michelin PA4 winters from my last car that Ill throw on next winter, but this could be an option when they all wear out. Doesnt take long in this car if you're having fun. 😇

I have used DWS06 (which is a stiffer sidewall than the original) exclusively (except when the last shortage happened) on my e55 and now rwd '13 w212 m157 e63 wagon. Great tire. That means I have used that model and the model prior (DWS) for six years. I drive the heck out of them and they do very well as an AS tire. Wear characteristics are up to you I used them on a bmw prior...

Wondering how the Bridgestone Potenza 980AS would do against these others...looks like they are in Closeout pricing on TireRack...maybe they are being discontinued, or perhaps a newer version is coming out?

I’ve been wearing the Conti All Seasons on the entire fleet (everywhere from MI to FL and everywhere in between), for over a decade as soon as the summer performance tires that came with the cars wore out. They’ve been great in all seasons. I don’t do a lot of snow driving, and only the Allroad sees snow anyway. But the others will see clear roads with low temperatures.
Anyone switching tires for seasons is either driving at the limits (performance in summer or weather in winter), or wasting their time, money and energy, which I see no reason to do. If you need summer only tires you really need a dedicated track car and to stay the hell off pedestrian streets.

I ordered up the Continentals this morning, I have a appointment to have them installed in 2 weeks when I get the rear diff fluid changed. I will keep the PZero's to put back on when I return the lease.

It is good that there are multiple options now. I wish the All Season Conti's were an option back when I ordered the only All Season option (Bridgestone 980AS). The 980s are OK, and I did see something about them having a high rolling resistance,.. least of our worries with the HP of this car, but my guess would be the Contis are better all around in many ways. The reviews already seem to indicate this.

Yup, although strangely the Bridgestone site claims they don't have a size that fits the E63S, while tire rack list both the 980AS and the 980AS+ that fit our car. Can't find any info anywhere on the differences/improvements between the two models. Bridgestone site still states the 980AS is their "flagship" all-season tire...

Heard from Bridgestone yesterday that the new RE980AS+ is an update to their 980AS, with better low temp handling, better treadwear, and lower noise. About $5 more per tire on TireRack...

I had these installed today. The measured tire noise level on a newly paved road was 10db quieter than the PS4 which were removed. FYI, 10db equals 1/2 the perceived noise level. The ride on the interstate seemed a bit smoother as well. I'll get a better feel once they fully break in. 😃

I understand your point. However, the pitch of the tire noise was different as well most likely due to the tread design.BTW, the outer ribs look the same between the two tires.

Got it...glad to hear that the AS's are quieter. Anxious to see some reviews of the new RE980AS+, then I'll decide. Prob won't replace until winter..we really don't get much rain here in the Bay Area, and when we do, it's typically Jan-Mar.

I had my Continentals installed yesterday as well. The seem quieter and the ride is smoother. Only issue now is that the guy taking off my old wheel weights must have used a screwdriver, scratched the Black barrels.

I had a set of A/S 4's installed today on my 2018 E63S Wagon as well. Pressure at 39 front and 36 rear. Super nice ride, definitely more comfortable than PS4S's and quieter.
