W213 E63s CAMSHAFT DEVIATED
W213 E63s CAMSHAFT DEVIATED
HI all,
i have a w213 2017 Mercedes E63s,
Over the past few days I have felt there is a little knocking and jolting in the engine through the drivers seat upon cold start up.
To further limit any damage, i took it to get scanned to make sure there was nothing serious and 2 faults came up.
1 - P002477 The positioning of the EXHAUST camshaft (cylinder bank 2) deviates from the specific value. The commanded position cannot be reached
2 - P002177 The positioning of the INTAKE camshaft (cylinder bank 2) deviates from the specific value. The commanded position cannot be reached
The car has been ECU tuned to stage 1 by evolve tecnik
Just want know if anybody can shed some light on this for me as I was told by the MB tech he thinks that the reason as to why the adjustments are different from Factory spec is the tune.
Im a little confused as if so should it not be both banks not just the 1?
Thanks in advance

Why is nobody taking their 100k car to the dealer for this potentially catastrophic issue? Don’t run a car with cam issues that you can’t diagnose properly.
mb icarsoft and Icarly are not for these cars imo…very limited data.

Guys How did your case end up?
im getting the same issue but just on the intake for both banks. Im currently replacing the crank sensor and all position sensors. Magnet adjusters have been replaced also. not sure if you guys have an actual cel like I am but this issue is an intermittent problem that I think its just a bad sensor issue. performance isnt affected but i do get some long 2-4 second cranking sometimes. also auto start/stop is disabled immediately.
W205 c63s 130k miles btw.

I didn't purchase the car after finding this code & some other red flags . I did however invest some time into this code researching.. spoke to quite a few mb techs etc. Most of them were leaning towards a camshaft gear issue . Never really came up with anything concrete stating it's definately x or y part that causes this issue .

You folks made me paranoid, so I checked mine.
Yup, same two codes stored:
P002477 The positioning of the EXHAUST camshaft (cylinder bank 2) deviates from the specific value. The commanded position cannot be reached
P002177 The positioning of the INTAKE camshaft (cylinder bank 2) deviates from the specific value. The commanded position cannot be reached
2019 E63S with 50k miles. It regularly has 3 or 4 second cranking on cold start, but otherwise it's strong like a bull.

Would start by using Xentry to read the codes and run the tests they have for the cams. Then doing the physical basic timing check by setting the crank to 53 degree mark (if i remember correctly), removing the 4 cams sensors on the top valve cover, looking thru the hole to make sure the cam wheel mark is half moon in the center. Easy checkups, without digging into the motor.
