One thing that kind of ticked me off is that the remote parking pilot, or whatever it is called, feature did not make it to the US.

They showed it on videos for the European market during the launch but I was surprised to find that the feature isn't on our cars in the US. This is the feature where you are outside your car and you use your cell phone to control the car as it pulls into or out of a parking place. For example a garage with tight space and no room to open the doors.

Some time ago I had a post about needing this feature when a young lady pulled in next to my car just barely missing the rear end and leaving only a foot or so between her passenger do and my driver door. I figured that like me, she had just popped in to the Starbucks so waited for a few minutes for her to come out and move the car. If I had had the remote parking pilot feature I could have just backed the car out of the spot. It's a feature I'd rarely use here in the US, but nice to have when you need it.

I used the self parking assist feature quite a lot during the European delivery trip. A lot of the parking we encountered was along streets so it was easy to turn on the feature as we were driving up to a spot and have the car say I can fit into that, and then let it do its thing. A little scary sometimes, because honestly I probably wouldn't have tried a couple of the spots, but the car put itself right in there.

Pulling into my garage, or up against curb that might damage the front splitter, I'll also hit the parking assist button then turn the knob to the desired view to make sure I'm leaving the right distance between me and the obstacle.

I will give all this a try, Harris. Haha I didn't even know parking assist existed. Will play. For whatever reason, this car drives much bigger than it really is, so this will be a welcome feature. Visibility is a factor for sure. I drive my full-sized RR around like it's a little Honda Civic relatively speaking.

Okay so how do you set this car so driver's side mirror dips when shifting into reverse?

Also, how does the Vehicle Hotspot work? How much monthly and how is the speed?

Can't believe you need to connect your phone via cable to use CarPlay. Wtf

Observation: touchpad infinitely better when you turn off haptic feedback.

Wish blinkers appeared in HUD. Possible to have HUD setup change with driving mode? HUD leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to ability to customize.

I haven't tried to adjust the driver's side mirror in reverse, but it might be the same as the passenger side mirror.

Put the car in reverse, select the mirror on the driver side arm console and adjust to the desired position. If it is like the passenger side, the mirror has to be selected to be pointed down, so you can likely only have one mirror pointing down at a time. But then again, it is just a guess as I haven't tried the driver side mirror.

I do use the passenger side down pointing all the time though in order to better avoid curb rashing.

Just checked both MY2020 and MY2021 manuals, they only mention the "...parking position function..." in relation to the passenger mirror. Seems like you may be SOL...

Since I've never had a car with this function, I didn't even know about it until today. When trying to avoid curb rash, I've been quite happy with the various camera views, my favorite being the "...top view with images from the side cameras in the outside mirrors".

1. Only the passenger side mirror can be set to dip when in reverse. The mirror control needs to have that selected for it to function. Learn to use the cameras instead.
2. Yes, car play requires a USB cable connection. No wireless at this time.
3. I have AT&T for my hotspot carrier. Internet speeds are consistent with business 4G LTE. I get 75mbs down and around 30mbs up most of the time. Cost is $25/month with unlimited data. Not sure how that will work in your immediate area.
4. Not understanding the HUD question. You can change the HUD information on the left and the right sides. I've set mine for traffic signs, speed, cruise indication, inbound telephone calls. You can set up the tachometer display as well.

Have a good Thanksgiving holiday.

^^^Thanks. I meant passenger side. Nice that MB didn't take this away like many other small things.

ocd, I am a mirror guy too, but there's a parking camera setting that lets you see top down for all 4 wheels... it works great for parallel parking.... have yet to try the automated parallel system.

^^^Thanks I will explore how to work this camera system next. Hopefully there's a button to press without having to navigate menus.

Fastest muscle memory way I found is to press parking sensor/camera button (center console bottom right button) and then swipe down on touchpad (twice for front camera to avoid hitting parking bump or curb, three times for side tire views for parking along curb). I wish there were a way to make pressing parking sensor button default to front view since I use it the most.

Same as previous post, but after I press the button I give the knob a twist to three clicks for the front parking limit bar as I'm pulling into a spot. Easier on my 2018 because my hand is already right next to the knob.

I would check out the Active Parking Assist too, which has a dedicated button on the center console... it'll automatically find spots the car can fit into and then will park the car in them without you having to do anything. Check page 231 in the "wagon" manual for more info.

How do you remove the shipping wax from new tires? I've got most of it off months ago when the tires were installed, but there are still some spots of wax deposit on the sidewalls. I've tried Fantastic, Dawn, and other soaps at this point. Thanks for any guidance.

Folding mirror was a great feature on bmws while back at the time of 1200 baud dial up modem!
We have 360 camera view nowadays.
No need to push buttons, it pops up on the screen automagically after selecting reverse.
are you saying your car does not have 360 view?

Harris, this stuff is great. Adams also has a tire and wheel cleaner that's excellent. Also need a good brush.

Thanks for all the great replies. I do have 360 view just need to learn how to use my car more. Will report back.

Re HUD... I set up my personal performance button to include manual transmission. Wish HUD were customizable per driver mode. Want gear indicator to pop up on HUD but don't want it there when not in manual.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy!

For the outside mirrors and backing up I wanted both mirrors to point downward. I ended up using the 3rd seat memory for that as it remembers seat and mirror positions.

Actually, you can do this by setting up a different driver profile which defines all of the display and customizable settings for comfort, display, audio. etc. Just switch to that profile when you want to drive differently.

Found simple way to easily scroll radio favorites... hit button with arrows on top center of trackpad. This puts you in some different mode allowing one-touch surfing of 20 favorite stations using steering wheel control or trackpad.

Why does it take like a few seconds for car to start after pressing start button? If it starts at all.
