Without that campaign number, my dealer has no clue … given I had already asked when I was in couple of weeks ago.

@bobblehead I completely understand and I will see what I can do on Friday. As another poster wrote though I think it will be a TSB since it is an optional request and not a campaign.

The only campaign I had ever done in my 18 was #201910004 - update Amg suspension control unit software. This was initiated in the Fall of 2019

So here is what he told me and I quote " the customer needs to request 'update to the newest version both the suspension and AMG drive modules.'" I can screenshot my paperwork but I can say it wasn't much more helpful. I will not that they charged $199 for the software although I talked them down to $99 since it is purely software. I can say that is absolutely changes the ride of the car and it is a good improvement. I will be at the dealership on Friday so if I can get a tech to tell me the exact campaign code or whatever is needed I will do that.
Thanks for the info. Have you noticed if ride height changed after the update?

Ok so I know that this has taken me forever to get updated and again my apologies. We are in the middle of a move so life has been hectic. I talked to the tech and service manager at length and they were super helpful but unfortunately what I learned is that the software update isn’t like a service campaign and all they can do is plug in the MB computer and it searches the database for software available for your VIN. So what this means is likely if you have a 2020 e63 (sedan or wagon) you should be able to get the software but for other years I simply don’t know. Also, with regard to ride height it didn’t seem to affect that from what I can tell. I will tell you the damping though is seriously improved so I am quite happy. I think you simply have to be pushy with your service manager to get them to look at all available software for your VIN. Sorry there isn’t a “code” I can offer.

So they basically have service campaigns and LIs. Service campaigns will come up as those are things that MB/AMG wants to get on all their cars to address a known issue. LIs, don't actually know what it stands for, are solutions to customer complaints. They don't automatically get applied. You have to specifically complain about an issue, and then they check if there's an LI related to it. For example my C63S coupe is in for service at the moment and I complained that the seat belts are not retracting properly. There's an LI for this and they fixed it. They wouldn't have fixed it unless I complained, though. There are also software updates that are not automatically installed, and only get installed in response to a specific customer complaint. So if this suspension update isn't a campaign, then it's not something AMG believes every car should just get. Whatever the reason is. I guess it specifically gets applied only if somebody complains about comfort. My guess is that it compromises the handling, and not everybody is necessarily willing to make that trade-off.

According to a MB help website I found, LI's are essentially the MB version of Technical service bulletins.

so i know this thread is a year old, but I just wanna say that I got the update a couple days ago and it’s is a REALLY noticeable difference. There’s no change in ride height, I confirmed w a Benz service adviser who I have a good relationship with. One thing I did notice is that if you try to raise the vehicle at say 35-40 mph, it says to slow down. From my experience before the update, it was higher around 50-60. I’m not too well-versed w the other implications this may have and I don’t see why you’d need to raise your car at those speeds, but I thought I’d mention it in case it helps shed light on the concerns someone had w compromising the handling for the sake of comfort.

A couple things I want to add about how you can approach this w your dealer based off the information I received at my local dealership. I was told these AMG models have hours and hours of updates possible for them at any given time. However, Mercedes in Germany provides instructions to dealerships to only do those updates that may address a particular issue or situation. In this case, these suspension updates and amg drive module update are not mandatory however if you pose them to your dealer as an issue (even if persay there isn’t one) they will try software first. It’s kind of like going to the Apple Store and they try all their diagnostics and hard resets before considering a replacement. It’s just protocol. They have nothing against providing these updates, but it’s my understanding if you just walk in and ask for an update you saw on mbworld, they can’t document a problem for Mercedes in Germany and this cannot appropriately provide an update. My friend at the dealership said it’s kind of like if it’s not broken don’t fix it; but if something gets worse because of an update, your issue has been documented and can be further investigated or even reverted, so I was told by a Benz service adviser. Now I will say that I drive my AMG like an AMG and sport + and race mode feel essentially the same when I go down my curvy backroads pre update. I have plans for a track day in a couple weeks, and I can update steering feel in that environment if anyone is interested.

for what it’s worth, my personal opinion right now is comfort mode feels a lotttt better, truly. I did not expect software to make such a difference since someone mentioned facelift included updated dampers. The other update I got done was a transmission update because I was having some transmission jerking or hesitation on initial throttle pull in low rpms ie Signals. I’ve gotten all my regular maintenance and just recently serviced my transmission fluid just to spoil my Benz at 30 K miles lol. Post update, I have to say transmission problem solved, my up shifts also seem smoother. They also updated the AMG drive modules, I didn’t ask what this actually does, but one genuine difference I noticed post updates is emotion start, where you hold the paddle and turn on ignition, it sounds amazing! depending on the weather and how cold my engine was, I could usually get a start up w the crackles and pops. Post update, I swear every start up is consistent and lives up to the emotion start name (I think that’s what the feature is called I forgot)

My advice for anyone interested. Pose it as a potential issue with your car and suggest or ask if any software updates have been offered to help mitigate such issues. Yes my car is under warranty, but they did the update for free when I posed it like this. On the invoice, this dealer quoted them at 275 each update, yikes for greeedy dealership. Anyways, I hope this helps someone!!

So glad to hear someone else had this done. It made a huge difference in mine and love it since it only made comfort more comfortable and left everything else alone.

Thanks so much this information is very useful. How much more comfortable would you say it is, in percentage terms? Is there any update number or paperwork you could share?

If anybody is interested in getting this done, see below for link to official MB campaign pdf.
it applies to w205 and x253 also.
i think it waz started due to recalls, and ultimately ended up being a software update, that is an improvement from factory suspension.
i have made appointment this weekend for the update.

From the pdf:
"The possibility exists that noise development may arise in the area of the rear axle differential."
This does not sound like the issue covered by this thread. Also, MY 2020 is missing from the list of affected MY's, and MY 2020 has the old/harsh suspension, so it should/would be on the list.

i just reached out to a dealer, he said the car had a recall on suspension update, which was done in 2020. I told him this wasn't related to the recall, but he said there are no other service bulletins related to e63 and suspension.... was this by chance a recall item?

Who did receive the suspension update in the meantime?
I'd like to update my 2019 E63 as well but I don't know which SW for the SPC (suspension controller) was used in the update ...

@Jphouston @adamp121 When you're next getting a service, can you request the Xentry Quick Test Log report? It'll list all the modules in your car, along with their hardware/software versions. It would really help in figuring out what specific changes have been applied to your car that help with the ride.

It'll contain a bunch of tables that look like this, containing module name, model, part number, supplier and version.

Hi all,

Thank you for such great info.

Just got a e63s wagon 2018 in france. I will try to get the update applied if I can find a cooperative dealer.

Has anyone else been successful in getting the update?

I have 4 PSS4 on order, that should help a little.

thanks all. P
