Thanks for confirming, I stand corrected then.

Glad to hear it is fixed.

Contacted my FCP euro and went with following battery
Group 49 H8 Battery - Odyssey Performance 49-950

last one from MB that was replaced with warranty only worked for 8-9 month and for the past 6 month has “start engine warning “
I’ll see how this OEM alternative stacks up against stock one , was tempted to try much lighter lipo based battery but not sure if our electrical is compatible with it .

it's amazing how hard i've had to dig to just find the right battery to fit the 213's. Is H8 AGM the right one to get? some places have said H9, others H7.

Every store has some form of 'vehicle battery finder' but for whatever reason the w213 e63's either aren't in the list of cars or if it is the result comes up with no match. Even though clearly every manufacturer makes an H8 AGM. The merc dealer wanted $550 to replace the battery, which is laughable given they're around $200 and takes 5 minutes to change.

H8 AGM is easy to find at Costco or any auto parts store.

I apologize for a dumb - reasked question but it seems to have mixed opinions. Can you just drop in a nice new H8 from Costco (Interstate who makes the MB battery) or any other store without reprograming OR does it need programming. I've talked through this with my service advisor who I do trust. He said the w213 unlike some before needs a flash but did kind of smirk. He THINKS it's about optimizing battery life. Given the cost of a battery and hourly rates, I'd just blow off reprograming because it's have the cost of the battery. Thoughts?

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.

My car (E43) by default is setup for a H6 and there is a spacer in the battery tray that's stamped with something like "remove when installing a H8 battery". Yes a H8 fits. Keep in mind that a H8 weighs about 12-15lbs more than a H6, if that matters to you.

Here's my opinion of the battery programming/reset (take it for what it's worth):

I tend to agree with your logic there. Just felt the need to ask. I might feel different IF I had codes or something. I had the car in for Vented Seats sucking (which they just do) and part of their diagnostic showed low power for the function and it was being managed by shutting down the seat blowers. Sooo while the battery isn't causing any major issue or throwing errors, it was not up to snuff.

Replacing the battery on this car is the same process as replacing a battery in a flashlight. Take old battery out, put new one in. Move on with life.

Agreed. I think the rest of the story is a method to keep milking the "dealer-only service" cash cow.
