Oil Catch Can do we need them

The W212 M157 backside of valves get really gummed up.
How is the W213 M177 ?
Do the stock oil separators solve this?

Getting this looked at from these guys that made the M157 catch can


Zac Motorsports had a kit for the C63S but caused EGR codes IIRC

As much as I would love to see someone develop a solution for the m177 ls2. I don't think it will be as simple as removing the stock oil separators, CNC'ing billet fittings, running some hose, and collecting the blow-by in a catch can. I foresee the biggest obstacle being the lack of room, behind the air filter housings and charge air coolers, where the stock separators sit. With that being said, I'll hold out hope that companies like 63motorsports come up with something!

Failed vapor separators (see threads) and resulting rear main crank oil seal failure seem like justification to explore a catch can on this engine. Intake valve deposits are a secondary reason on this engine imo.

Agree but does anyone know if the stock separators are good enough (if they don't fail) to keep the valves "clean"?
I've been googling for m177 intake valve pictures like the M157 ones I posted above and can't find any (yet). Or if anyone has found a rebuild video where they take it all apart and show the valves.

I'm hoping the best course of action is to do nothing.

My independent tech went to clean my valves at 35k miles and there was nothing to clean. That said, my RMS may just have failed this weekend. I found oil on my garage floor. Do they keep the valves clean? Yes. Will they still fail? Yes.

I'm reading this trying to decide if on my 2018 GLE63S @140,000km it's worth going to the trouble of adding EGR catch cans, where the EGR valve is and how do I do it...?

you won't find enough empirical, reasonable data/reporting on this forum to know if this is worth it at all. Good luck whatever you choose
