I just received my 213 e63 amg wagon. So far the best car I have owned to drive. Is there a workaround for wireless car play for this system? Anyone have any solutions that they have undertaken?
I had a similar unit in my W212 but another brand. My pet peave with the W213 is I can't find one that fits without stealing a cupholder spot. The USB in the armrest doesn't seem to run carplay, only the one behind the cupholders beside the wireless charging pad in the front. I can't find a carplay adapter small enough to live there without blocking either a cup holder or the wireless charging pad.
Would it have really been that hard for MB to integrate it? It's 2023 for pete's sake LOL
P.S. Ottocast seems like a solid choice too. But again the fitment and size. I'm currently just plugging in my iphone in like a neanderthal until I confirm something doesn't steal a cupholder or the charging pad.
I use the Carlinkit 5 with a short USBC cord, sits in the wireless phone charger pad space. Works decently enough. I never use the phone charger pad since it doesn't seem to work well and phone barely fits in it, and hard to take phone out of there because the space is too small for iPhone Pro Max.
Not in MBUX 1. It was promised as an OTA update but never happened. Wireless CarPlay was added starting with MBUX 2 in the new S Class. Doesn't work right, though. I just had a new C300 loaner and wireless CarPlay kept crashing and disconnecting. There might be an OTA update to fix it as others have reported it works in their car, but it was unusable in this 2023 C300. Even wired CarPlay occasionally did the same thing. One step forward and two steps back with MBUX.
I don't use CarPlay much in my own car, and when I use it, having to plug it in is fine. I do use it whenever I drive another car, though, such as a loaner as it instantly transplants my data and personalized experience into any car. Particularly, because I have a Homekit smart home which allows me to open my garage from the CarPlay dashboard, so I don't have to carry a remote or get out of the car. Therefore it sucked that CarPlay was so flaky in the newer models. Strangely it seemed to work fine in a prior S 500 loaner I had.
Carlinkit 4.0. It was like $20cad on Aliexpress when I got it. Works very well, was worried when I first got it because it would disconnect every 3 mins. Had to adjust the frame rate to 20 in the settings and ever since has been flawless. Sits fine in the hole, as others mention the wireless charger is useless for the big phones (pro max size).
Quick, recurring theme here, Carlinkit. I couldn't be more pleased with it.
I bought it in April for $80 USD. Having just looked-up my Amazon order, it's just over $100 UDS now.
Have to say though, as the price point we're paying for these automobiles, it's a technological embarrassment that OOB, MBUX doesn't support it (and at full screen!).
I've been plugging in the wire and carplay is very glitchy on 2023 MBUX compared to my Command W212.
The biggest annoyances are the mercedes buttons that don't know how to work most of the time.
Two examples:
When I hit "Nav" button in the car it only switches back to the Waze app that is currently running a route about 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time it forgets carplay Waze is running and Nav button takes me to a new trip in the Mercedes Nav. I have to hit home, phones, it shows carplay is indeed active, hit carplay, then goto Waze. What a PITA.
When I hit the steering wheel phone buttons they only work 30% of the time with carplay. I have to go into carplay (that's already running) and hit the phone on the touch screen. This sucks even on incoming calls, carplay is on the screen with the "accept" button right there, but when I hit the phone button on the steering wheel only sometimes will it answer. I have to reach and push accept on the touch screen.
Again this is with the phone directly plugged into the correct port with an official Apple cable. My phone is up to date, no idea on the MBUX.
So annoying. What a simple thing, and such a fail. They went backwards!

I popped the cup holder out of the console so have plenty of space for the carlinkit and (somewhat useless) wireless pad. We use the cupholders in the doors.
The Ottocast unit is like 1.5 x 1.5". Tiny. Comes with a short USB cable so will sit nicely on the useless charging pad and plug in right there. Perfect little setup.
I popped the cup holder out of the console so have plenty of space for the carlinkit and (somewhat useless) wireless pad. We use the cupholders in the doors.
I keep umbrella's in the doors having removed those cupholders. Oh the humanity.
Still beats the bus!
Hey is there a way when changing modes from C to S or S+ etc. the car flips to the screen showing the settings and it WRECKS whatever I had going on the screen in Carplay and I have to hit HOME, PHONES, CARPLAY
All I want to do is change driving modes and I can't Because if I do my Carpaly nav just disappears and it's a fight to get it back.

At least on my 2018 w/COMAND, under Agility settings there is a checkbox labeled something like "notify modes" or something like that. I unchecked it and that splash screen no longer pops up when changing driving modes (thank you very much).

Right, there's a setting, at least in COMAND there is. I have this turned off as well.

Carlinkit 4.0, apple carplay works pretty smooth but android auto gives a lotta problems. Compared to the Carlinkit 4.0, the 5.0 adapter supports Carplay and Android Auto natively. (Don't buy from Amazon, Amazon is too vast to provide specialized support.)
I use a device called carplay2air. I found out about it here on the MB forum. You can buy it online direct or amazon. It plugs into the USB port near your cup holder. It works great 95% of the time, but occasionally will glitch especially if the car is left outside in the heat and the unit gets overheated from sitting in the car. Overall, it has worked really well though.
i use this one and it works really well, boot up time is like 10 sec ( on par with MBUX start time ) , its very compact and i like that magic button to switch easy between registered phones.
had couple minor glitches when i got it but support was great and they fixed it in just a couple days with OTA.

Once you get the Carlink installed, it works like a champ. I got it because the wired connection to my phone crapped out because of a bad USB socket. Samsung replaced it and it crapped out again after a few months. There are some pins needed for the high-bandwidth connection that Android Auto needs that seem to wear very quickly. So wireless is the way to go. It even will connect to my phone or my wife's phone, depending on who's using the car. Nothing to tap. It just comes up. Should have done it day 1.
