Winter Tire question

In the 6 years that I have owned this car, I have always ran summer tires. Barely ever drove it below 40 Degrees and never drove it when it snowed. This year I do not have a daily so I need to swap.
What tires have you guys ran, Only options I see are either Michelin Pilot sport all seasons 4 or Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+ or Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus

I am a michelin guy so that what I was thinking of getting but would appreciate any input on what tire is better out of the 3.

Thank You

I know you have a specific question about all 3 and may desire a fresh discussion, therefore I am just sharing a compiled list of discussions from the sticky to get the ball rolling

Cheers

I ran the Conti Extreme Contact DWS06+ on my 2013 Ford Taurus SHO. Car is AWD made 414 hp and 546 tq to the tire. Those were some of the best tires I have ever bought. Worked great in every application, including snow when I got caught in snow storm. Hell they even pulled a 1.77 sixty foot at the track. No too shabby for a all season tire.

Does speed rating matter? Keep in mind most real winter tires don’t like high speeds. I run Michelin Pilot Alpine PA5 which have a W rating and are great in the snow here in Canada. I like not having to worry if they’ll melt or disintegrate when I forget and press the loud pedal.

Not really, living in NYC in the winter time I am not really speeding. I think I might just go for the Michelin PSA4 since I dont really want to deal with getting a whole new wheel. If the snow does get bad I can always ask me cousin to pick me up since we both work together.

And.... it's really about maneuvering and stopping with a winter tire - at least for me.

For the first 5 years, I took off the summer tires, and put dedicated snows on the OEM wheels. At the end of last year's winter, I threw out the snows, as they were shot. I put on the PSA4's and love that they're not runflats. I haven't had them in snow yet, but so far very happy with my decision. I live in Westchester County, it's my daily, with over 57,000 miles on it.

E63S with Mich Pilot AS4 during three seasons and Mich Alpin PA4 for winter ( 19 inch rims dedicated set ). Very much happier with the ride than OEM Pirelli P Zeros summers. OP - I dunno how you survived NYC in an E63 with summer tires. All my friends with regular all seasons (and not in E63s) that drive in NYC have lost tires and wheels to potholes. To OPs qn about Bridgestone RE 980AS - I have them on my front wheels on my CLS - not too expensive and they are fine but they hum at 50-55 mph.

I'm running Vredestein Quatrac+Pro on a '22 E53 Sedan with 20" wheels. It's a severe service rated All-Weather tire. Not quite a full on snow tire but supposed to be better than an All-Season. I'm in NYC and go to VT every weekend to ski. Was up last weekend driving in 2" fresh snow and the car handled very well.

I like them much more than the run-flats. These ride better and are much quieter. I also carry a spare tire kit, tire, jack, tools, etc., from Modern Spare. The only bad thing is that the rolling diameter is slightly larger, so the speedometer reads 1 to 2 mph slow at around 65mph and up. They also seem less prone to sidewall damage from NYC potholes.

Michelin Cross Climate 2+ are great in my experience. I got 36,000 miles out of a set (winter swap, as we have mild conditions). Recently switched to Michelin X-Ice...dedicated winter tires. I already miss those CC2+ though, because they have so much more grip and performance in the dry conditions compared to the X-Ice. If you don't have to worry about icy conditions, or deep snow - the CC 2+ might be a good fit. Conti DWS 06 are an excellent tire too. Probably less road noise than the CC 2+.
