Recommended storages for dashcam?

What storage medium / slot do you guys use for your dashcam options? I have tried with a SanDisk dual-port in the middle armrest center console but all of my files keep corrupting, cannot recover and when viewed through the MBUX Media option, i can see some frames but then i will get stretching of frames and then video becomes unplayable. I use the loop recording feature that gets 1 minute snips.

Cannot recover from computer, phone, etc. Files are unviewable and unusable

I don't know if this is an MBUX issue and there is a software update or something

Use a dashcam rated sd card such as samsung endurance and class 3 but not a must.

I guess the file format formatted also matters.

I switched to a Samsung T7 1TB SSD today and was able to view the videos in the dashcam after a delay of about 5 minutes of buffering, still unviewable on pc

I think my dashcam's encoder has something horrifically off with it, gonna take this back to the dealer and hopefully get it sorted out under warranty

MBUX was using way too much system memory for disk caching on my EQE SUV. About half full and dashcam would start to get real slow and it was 50/50 whether it would get corrupted when full and it tried to "loop". I shrunk my 1 TB partition down to 128 GB and that solved all my problems.

I already tried with a small sandisk flash at 128gb but that just also corrupted. Could you link the drive you use?

I used an actual NVMe SSD in a USB-C enclosure and it still wasn't fast enough.

I see I had it formatted 64 GB though. I guess I was thinking about trying 128.

I think I have the dashcam option, I bought my 2021 E63 Wagon used back in July. The camera comes on when I am at a traffic light and randomly sometime when I am parked in view of a street with cars going by. I can not find where to put the SD card, where to view anything on the MBUX, or anything in the owners manual.

Can somone tell me where to put the SD card, if I have the option to do so, and where to access in the MBUX system?

Thank you!
Dan

There is no SD card slot. Instead, use a USB C thumb drive. I use a 256GB or 512GB Samsung one, no problems. There is a dashcam app in the applications section to turn on automatic recording.

I guess I don't have the dashcam option. I plugged in a SD to USB-C adapter into the center console USB-C thinking the Dashcam app would come up in my Mercedes Apps folder but it did not. I didn't see a place to download the app. I guess my car has the actual camera and it does work at traffic lights but does not have the dashcam function. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on or buy the dashcam function?

Thank you.

When you scroll through the center screen and get to the Apps menu, do you see "Dashcam" as one of the items in Apps ? If so you have the feature from the factory. If not then you do not. The camera itself is not the issue - most of us will have the camera you describe. The dashcam software was a specific factory option around $150 to $200 IIRC and that needs to be loaded at the factory. If not then you are looking for some kind of coding solution from an online source, some of whom advertise their work on this forum.

BTW prior to a free software update in 2024 for my 2021 E63 sedan, my dashcam app would be intermittent. So that is one more wrinkle that you may want to figure out with the dealer ....

I do not have the Dashcam app. Thanks for the heads up on the app being intermittent. I'll have them check it next time I bring it to the dealership.
