Just bought it from an auction. CEL on, hard misfire (cyl #1 gets deactivated). Was just curious how many miles I could reasonably expect to get out of it
. If I could get another 40K out of it I'd be happy. Of course I have to get the misfire fixed first

Questions is: will you even get 1000 miles out of this car? I sure hope you got a swinging deal for the car and get to drive it or flip it

Ya I mean they bought it from auction it could be a collision, rodent, fire, flood, anything. I wouldn't say it would be caused by normal wear and tear?

Wonder if it's a salvage title

In my experience a hard misfire is usually just a bad coil pack. I've had to change coil packs on my last two cars (Hyundai Veloster, BMW M3 E92). I've also seen bad plugs do the same- the BMW had this problem too, you get a series of misfires and then the ECU disables the cylinder until the next start. Of course it could be serious (burnt exhaust valve, piston rings/cylinder liner). Or even the ECU, which isn't likely but I've seen that happen (I used to be a mechanic). This is my first "modern" Mercedes (I owned an old 240D which was bulletproof but slow as hell). LoL the 240D would run even when you didn't want it to

I'll definitely find out the root cause- unless it turns out to be a beat cylinder (no compression). If the compression is low I'll just sell it at auction with disclosure- don't feel like pulling the head just to discover I need a whole new engine anyway. Win some lose some. Either way, I'll start a new thread and describe it all, for future members. These forums are awesome and I plan to be a contributor where I can. The M3 forums saved me so much time and hassle.

great powertrain, just don't get a 48v made in alabama. germany made 48vs look very reliable so far
now switching both to 5w-40 from 0w-30 after being terrified by the oil solenoid thread!
