2019 E63S Front Camera Lens cracked
Hi:
The lens on the front camera of my 2019 E63S is cracked.
MB wants $1500 for a new camera and is about $1000 to remove the font bumper cover to install the new camera.
You can buy replacement camera on line for about $100, ebay Chinese version.
After months of deciding what to do, I got the idea to grind out the lens on the front camera, and extract the lens from a $100 on line donor camera (already done this), and put this lens on the front camera.
No guarantee the replacement lens will focus the image properly, and I am not sure how I will "glue" the new lens in.
I dont have much to lose since the current image is pretty blurry due to the crack.
Also, I found a video on removing the bumper cover, does not look to bad, not the 4 hours MB quoted anyhow.
Also, thought about just removing the grill cause thats where the camera bracket really is, but does not seem possible with removing the bumper cover.
I wanted to ask the forum for opinion and other ideas or tricks for replacing the front camera.

Get the PN from dealer, and then buy it off ebay. My front camera cracked, had my body shop replace it for $200 all in.

The problem is the alignment. Even doing a wheel alignment on our cars (with that camera) requires special tools. This is a safety thing, 99% if not more of the body shops will go to the dealer to get that aligned.

I bought the $99 replacement off of ebay, carefully ground out the lense, ground out the lense from the camera on the car and put a new lense in the camera on the car.
The lenses and guts of the $99 camera and the one on the car are identical, and now the image is crystal clear.
No programming or dealer needed.
I would have replaced the whole camera but getting the front bumper cover off this car is hours of work.
