Tech: SAM Modules query

Afternoon All,

Does anyone have either a tech breakdown of what the SAM modules does or perhaps a wiring diagram for the FRONT SAM module?

Every time you flick a switch you're sending a signal to a SAM, which then activates the consumer. Having two hubs for electrical connections eliminates a lot of heavy, expensive copper and replaces it with much smaller signal paths. The old days had headlight current flowing through the firewall to the headlight switch. Now it goes from the front SAM, with the fuses, directly to the headlights plus a thin cable from the switch to the SAM. Multiply that by hundreds of electrical paths and you see the point.

So it is a mux/demux box? Canbus runs through it?

It's just a "virtual relay" box governed by CAN bus commands. Of course CAN bus reach the SAM, like any other electronic module in the car.

Not reach, Route

Like the gatway module but i guess that is what the gateway module is.

No route, it's just a dumb module, switch on or off over electronic relays. Of course if it's flooded or burned, the CAN will be short circuited...

What do you want to achieve?

if you'd like to review the busy CAN Modules faults, its easy with a simple $150 MB scanner.

It can read data from every of the 45+ modules.

The network configuration is all diagrammed in WIS format with all the distinct nodes interactions.

It's high-tech but hardly reliable. Simple chassis "Reboot" help sanitize legendary battery drains under 5mn.

No need for that.

I can read Canbus signals with an O-scope (Lecroy HRO66zi) that has CANbus/Lin/MOST debugging or a canbus reader. Just wanted to know some tech background on it is all.

That is a fantastic Teledyne leCroy HRO 66Zi waverunner $10k tool.

How do you use its output ?

With your hability to interact with nodes you can do signal troubleshooting.
I think MB has an issue with multiple voltage threshold levels on different branches of the same network. MB CAN is forced to be voltage sensitive where it should not.
