Flat Tires on 19's or low pros

I am very close in getting my rims. Especially with JamE55 pics of his new HRE's. Damm the lip in the rear look's so sweeet.

Anyhow, what happens if I get a flat tire with rims? Seems like the low pro's and the width does not protect the rims much?

Sorry for all these question's. I just don't want to dump $3-4K on rims and tires and regret it in the long run.

I have never had a flat before so i can't comment on what will happen, but if you think about which rim your gonna get,it might save you some money. 2 or 3 piece wheels can have the rim replaced if its damaged badly, especially curbed. Sure it will take time but at least it will be a couple hundred as opposed to over $400 for a replacement for a 1 piece rim. HRE quotes a price of $45 for labor and $190 for the outer rim replacement or $170 for the inner.

New tires have lip protection technology, if you have a flat, stop immediately, change your tire. You can roll the tire flat and it shouldn't get to the wheel, I got a flat tire at around 100 mph 5 months ago on the E55 (18" wheels), when I noticed vibration I knew i had a flat, stopped and change the tire, by this time the tire had developed wall bubbles, so I had to buy a new tire, but the wheel wasn't damaged at all.

Actually this really depends on the rims style. The one i have are forged and are very strong so it doesn't damage the lip easily.

What rims and tires are you getting??

Thanks!

I am still not sure what I am getting. As you can tell, I been posting alot about rim size, lowering, flat tires, pulled over, and tire wear. With the great information this board has provided, I am still a little confused.

What really concerns me is that I am afraid my car will get jacked. See, I live far from work and I vanpool/carpool. Where I park my car for 9 hours, make me feel uncomfortable and feel that since I leave my car their is pretty secluded and that one day I'll come back and see my car on blocks or brick with the rims jacked. Or even see my car keyed or dinged cause the rims draw attention to the car and jealous people just like to mess with a mans car.

Only solution I have thus far is to say, screw it with the Rims and countinue to upgrade my stereo system, or get the rims and drive to work in the horrible LA traffic. And lastly do nothing, save your money and get the car you want (to be determined) in the next 2 year. I could always get the rims and if the rims do get jacked, hope my insurance will cover it.

I'm almost in the same situation you are! Here's the secret....get a 2nd daily driver!! I'm using a 96 maxima right now as my daily driver since don't want anybody messing around with mine especially with the new setup.

With the Vanpool, I don't drive period!! that is the best part. I sleep all the way in to work. Problem is that my car is an unsafe spot in my opinion.

To answer you question of the first reply, I still thinking of the getting the Carlsson 2/5 brilliant. I think they are less aggressive than the other rims I like, but not to conservative. THe question is what size. Do 18's and 19's have the same lip? If I go with 18's can't I special order them to come in 18x10's? So many question are popping in my mind, I just don't want to post them on this board to quickly and spam the board. :p

Sorry can't be much help on your first situation.

If you're going to go with the Carlsson imo you should definitely go with 19"s like 19x9front and 19x10rears. And YES you can get them from Peter @ Wheelexperts.com!! Check it out and give Peter a call he can give you more info on these wheels!
