C300 4Matic with 18in AMG's
Why can't you get AMG 18in on 4-Matic C300?

Does anyone know why you can't get AMG 18in wheels on 4-Matic C300? You can only get them on 2 wheel drive versions, both the 17's and 18's are staggard so I don't know why you can't get them as an option. Is it perhaps because a 4 Matic should have all season tires and the 18in AMG's come only with performance tires? Or is there some physical interference or performance issue? I want to find a set of the 18in AMGs for my new C300 if they will work. Thanks for any info!

To my knowledge it's just like you said, the 18's only come in a staggered set. The 17's on 4-matics use all-season tires that are the same size on all 4 (probably not telling you anything you do not already know).

Actually, on a 4-Matic sport model, the 17's are staggard as well. I think the only reason may be the 18's don't come with all season tires.

Most

4 matic systems don't take kindly to a staggered set up.
The newer models compensate for the push of the wider rear staggers and adapt.Older systems it is not a good idea at all.If you want 18's in a stagger contact Luke at tirerack and find a set of the proper offset 18's in one of the amg style rims they carry.Keep your all seasons for those conditions and put some performance tires on the 18's just make sure the offsets are correct to avoid suspension interference and fender contact. Are you lowering the car?
Think about that also before you order the rims. You need same rolling diameter as oe in order to keep the 4 matic from going wonky on you.

Also in 4 wheel systems the overall diameters of the tires need to be exactly the same.

Anyone know for for sure if the 18in AMG's will work on a c300 4-Matic? Does anybody have them on a 4-Matic?

depends on the weather
it's possible to run staggered wheels and tires on a 4-matic but, not recommended by Mercedes in most applications. I would suggest running the same size on all four corners to avoid issues .... you can run what would be considered front wheels on the rear of your car with no problems

Thanks Luke....The car comes from the factory with staggard 17in set up, but 18's are not an option. I think it is due to summer performance tires only available on the 18's don't make sense with 4 wheel drive. Was wondering if there was any physical interference issues?

4wd vehicles need to have the same overall diameter for the system to operate correctly, otherwise the larger wheels will turn slower than the others. Also the wider wheels would have more grip than the the others in dry condition and conversely in snow conditions - anyway just my 5c worth.

I now have the 18in AMG's on my 4-Matic with no apparent issues. Rolling diameter of front and rear is nearly identicle - actually closer that the stagger on the 17's that come on it. I think the only reason you can't order (my guess) is that the summer tires that come on the AMG's don't make sense on for a 4-Matic vs the all seasons that come on the 17's. Anyway, I love the look!

Yep.. it defeats the purpose of purchasing a 4 wheel drive car with summer tires that you would have to pay extra down the road for winter or all season tires. They probably figure if someone wants to add on performance tires/rims, they can do that on their own. I think it's a good policy in terms of a safety first mentality.
