Why Wider Rear Wheels for Winter??!
Question for all you MB GURUS'.
The C43 has OEM rear wheels wider than front and this is for directional stability....I think.
The question is what are the pros and cons of mounting a new set of 4 identical winter wheels (Rims and Tires) all around??
The reason I am considering this is to be able to rotate them for max. usage.

our manual says to mount 4 215-45-17 winter wheels. u shouldn't be going that fast to notice the diff in the staggered 225-45-17/245-40-17 tires in the winter anyway....
u should be fine with 215-45-17 all around, so rotating wouldn't be a problem. also, the slightly smaller circumference would allow for even more space should u require chains. on that, i would recommend getting snow "cables" instead of snow chains...they're smaller in profile and r meant for low profile tires.

For the Pilot Alpine Winter tires the chart says 215-45-17 rim width is 7-8.0 Unfortunately both my set of rims are 8.5 for rear.
Should I just go as Eurosport has 225-45-17 rim widht is 7.0-8.5 all around or just rear wider?
Btw. just stumbled on this related article trashing wide tires for street driving.

225-45-17 should be fine too...the spare in the trunk is that size anyway...just usually, narrower is better in snow...

hey, why don't u buy some cheapo amg replica for winter and put 17x7.5 all around so u can go either 215 or 225...this way, all that crap sand won't kill ur nice amg rims...and u won't have to get ur tires mounted and unmounted all the time

Steve,
The car came with the AMG monoblock so I will mount snow tires on them.
Last summer I bought a new set of AMG for my summer Pilot Sport. The new rims are like the original AMG but the spokes are narrower. They do look sweet in the summer…. If summer ever arrives! Yeah! I thought about cheapo look alikes but AMG is AMG no matter how you cut it. Besides winters are a good 5-6mths. Here.
So I’ll get a set of 225-45-17 Pilot Alpines mounted on the original rims tomorrow.
Thanks a lot guys.

Oh! AlBoston, wish I had given myself time I would have got them off you at a great price. Unfortunately, I just got them installed this morning. FYI I paid ~US$700 inclusive. Really appreciate all your support. Thx.
