Continental ExtremeContact™ DWS

I'm looking for new tires for my 2002 E55 and can't handle replacing them so frequently (Michelin PS2, Goodyear Eagle, ...).

Looking at the reviews, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS looks like a great choice.

But they're on backorder at Tirerack and my local shop reported "galactic backorder" - his distributor couldn't even give him a date.

Is the tire worth waiting for and any insight on why the long delay?

Thanks,
Martin in NH

Depends on the season
check to see if they have the ExtremeContact DW unless you plan on driving your car in the snow.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS

I'm looking into these tires and the ratings seem very good, but I'm wondering if any of you have used them and what your opinions are. My C63 is mostly driven by my wife and I currently have Nitto 555's on my stock OEMs which are great but scarey in the rain. I'm getting 19" style V's and I want something that will last and have decent traction year round. I'm keeping the 18's for track days

Best all-season tire I've ever owned. I have them on my E500, SL600 and putting them on my R500 very soon.

They're here...

Finally got my set of the DWS tires from Steve at the Tirewarehouse in Goffstown, NH. He had been looking for me all this time and located them. AWESOME service and price!

Great ride and quiet...

Have to recheck the pressure, but feel awesome!

Regards,
Martin, K9AMG

Conti DWS - Yes!

have recently replaced my yoko's with conti's. What a difference! the conti's are sooooo much quieter and softer than the yoko's it's unbelievable. haven't the time yet to check the handling; however, i'm not running hard more than 5% of the time and if they're as good as others say I'm happy! At half the price!!!!

You're gonna love em. They're brilliant.

I wish they made them in the correct size for my wife's Range Rover though.

Well they are indeed a very smooth and quiet ride. Installer said they were very easy to balance out, not much in weights. Only drove it about 15 miles, but first impression is very promising.

I've had them for about 5 months now. So far they've been great. Good wet traction and for 19's, the ride is decent as well as turn in for cornering. If they hold up, I'll deffinetly get them again.

Conti Update: After ~200 miles and last night's 125+mph cruise thru light traffic on DC's Capital Beltway (imagine that, light traffic for a change), I'm very satisfied. I've had yokos, michelin ps2s, goodyear eagles and pirellis. The Contis hang with the best of em at half the price. So far, so good...

I had to choose between the Conti DWS or Bridgestone Potenza 960AS myself and decided to go with Potenza's for the following reasons.
Conti DWS: Better wet and snow performance
Potenza 960AS: Better cornering stability, dry traction and better steering response
Price wise both tires are pretty much similar

DWS suck big time. Do Not buy these tires if you need predictable performance.

Sidewall flex is so extreme forget about safely making emergency maneuvers or cornering at high speed.

They will RUIN the handling of your car.

They aren't track tires, and have never claimed to be. Why would someone want to "corner at high speed" on all-season tires? That sounds incredibly reckless and foolish.

I have had a set on my S55 since 11-09 and have unfortunately had more than one "opportunity" to make emergency maneuvers and they performed flawlessly. And they did not "RUIN the handling" of my car.

Do you even have these tires? Your wildy inaccurate comments lead me to believe you do not.

Negative. I have them on my 600+HP 700+TQ SL600 and they perfrom brilliantly. Are they as sticky as my 20" ContiSport3s? No, but they are the best all-season tire I've ever owned. Period.

Still cooking on my E500 as a daily driver and couldn't be happier with them on that vehicle, as well. There's a reason they're rated #1 on tirerack.

They are Z rated tires.

My Conti ProContacts handled much better and only H rated. Traction was the same but feel and stability superior

Maybe with 18's, 19s or 20s the feel is much different but with 40s the car squiggles, rolls on the side wall and gets buffeted by the wind far too much.

I guess there is a reason that the Conti website does not spec DWS for W204 17s

You are refer to speed ratings, then go on to say that an "only H rated" tire was more stable. Do you even know what Z and H rating mean?

^^What he said.

I've had them on my car for almost two months, and love them more with each day. Best all-around set of tires I've owned, ever.

Yes - I know. Every Z rated tire I've ever had incl all seasons did not have soft sidewalls like this one.

Even my V rated snows don't have the sidewall roll these have.

there you go again... the ratings have nothing to do with sidewall stiffness or "roll".

Wait a minute... do you drive flat out in a yellow GT2?

Whatever - I drove these 3000 KM loop Montana - Spokane up through Canadian Rockies and they suck big time on 17s.

Some love them - I think they are Dangerous. Respectfully, everyone has their opinion.

First Z tire I ever had that felt like a 65 series on 15" rim.

Have 1000s KM Vmax in Germany in various cars incl W204, E550, 993, 525i and 320 with 60 series LOL -

do me a favor, google what Z rated means, and please tell me what you find. We must be talking about two different things. Thanks.
