To use spacers or not... that's the question
What is the consensus on using spacers for an SL55? I hear a lot of "avoid spacers at all costs", but not one example of a bad outcome. I can get a pretty good deal on a set of wheels & tires, but I'd need to use spacers. Please comment if you can contribute some useful info. Thanks

I have the H&R 10 mm spacers on front and rear of my C55. I love the way it looks and no vibration issues. I tried the H&R 5 mm on the rear and it does not have the centering ring. I then had vibration issues above 80 mph. I would not recommend the H&R 5mm spacers.

The fact is that some customers would rather have a more aggressive look and the can get that look through the use of wheel spacers. As long as you purchase the correct product and the correct length bolts to hold the wheels in place you will never have any issues.
To say that you are using spacers to try and fit wheels not made for your car is a false statement and a little misleading.

I'm just looking at wheels coming from an SL500 for my SL55 and he says he used 16mm spacers. I really don't know much about wheels and that is why I'm here asking you guys who have more experience. I will see if these wheels were made for the SL or not when I meet the seller at a local tire shop.

The smallest Hub Centric spacer we have is 13mm and they would cost you $28.00 each and the correct bolts would cost you $3.00 each. We use a scm435 hardened steel bolt that is chromed unlike our competitors. The difference between them is that if the competitors bolts are over torqued they will stretch and the bolts will not hold the wheel on correctly. If you are using a stock Mercedes wheel make sure that you purchase a ball seat bolt as well, not a conical seat.
