Lightbulb Group Buy on Porterfield Brake Pads

I found a vendor that's willing to sell us Porterfield R4S brake pads for about 30% off (plus shipping and credit card fees). I'll get an exact price tomorrow but this is way cheaper than some other known discount sources. Let me know if you are interested. The list price is around $169. The more initial orders I can get the closer he'll get to 30%.

These pads that are supposed to produce very little dust, last, are quiet and have grip comperable to the stock pads.

According to SoCal240/6 they are very easy to put on and should only take a few minutes per side. I'll post pics of the work once I get my pads.

From what I paid a few months ago (before my present job), I would say that you aren't getting much of a deal. Give me an email, and I'll see what I can do.

No, I was just mentioning that I got them somewhere else for $108 w/ shipping. We may choose to carry porterfield pads, so I'll see what I can do

I would be interested in a complete set (front/rear) for my C320 (W203) and SLK32.

Please let me know what you come up with. Thanks.

OK. I got a price (does not include shipping and handling). For W203 C-Class it looks like ~$100/set for the fronts, and ~$66 for the rears in R4-S format. In comparison, Myroadster.net charges $149 for the fronts and list is $169. Other models have different prices, check with Geoff below for prices on other models. For example a 300SL list price is $44.57 so $108 is far from a bargain. Mach430, check out the prices for your model, I bet you did pay way too much for the pads. This is a great deal.

To order send an e-mail to gemohler@www.speedtoys.com and let him know Carl sent you from the MBWorld.com forum for the special price. His website is at www.speedtoys.com but he specializes in Japanese cars.

For those in OC/LA, let me know when you get your pads and we'll pick a shady location and put them on as a group. SoCal240/6 has volunteered to help.

Angry

Well it looks like Jerry Jones won at MyRoadster.net. They complained to Porterfield and forced SpeedToys.com to raise their prices. Does this sound like restraint of trade or price fixing? The new price is $135. All those that purchased it already get the $100 price.

I know Jerry is just trying to protect his business but would you buy anything from a business that practices in price fixing?

I wouldn't! I mean i know he's just trying to protect he's business and everything but i think it's also called gouging.

In his defense, he did nothing wrong by calling Porterfield. Porterfield, and most other companies, set a list price for their products and expect their resellers to follow them within a few percent. Doing so makes it fair for all their resellers. Since different companies make different margins off each product, setting a list price is the only way to ensure fair business for the resellers.

Put front pads in yesterday and drove 80 miles today. Used Permatex synthetic grease. Filed a slight chamfer around whole pad. Can't feel or sense any difference from standard pads (that's great!). No noise, big reduction in dust. Will do rears shortly. For those of you that have squeeks and squeels that can't be solved (that's why I didn't buy the MB anti-squeel, it's proven not to work!), have you tried the glue approach? Yup, while checking out anti squeel fixes I saw they came in two categories....grease, and adhesive. The adhesive attaches the pad to the piston (or carrier on the outboard pad) but not solidly. It flexes/moves a little bit. Seemed like a last resort to me and hope I don't ever have to go there only because it's leaves a residue when you apply it....don't know how hard it is to remove.

I forgot to thank you for your efforts in making the group buy happen Buellwinkle!! The politics of what went down can't change that. Besides, you got me off my butt to fix one of the things that really bothered me about my car. I think the Porterfield pads will be more rotor friendly and last longer as well. We appreciate you putting this together.
