Tires For Monoblocks

I just got my rims in today. I have a 99 CLK 430 and bought a pair of 18" AMG MONOBLOCKS. I checked the rims and the sizes are as follow:

front - 18 x 8
rear - 18 x 9

What brand and size tires do you recommend ?

Also could you recommned a good place for repairing and rechroming rims. One of the front rims looks like it has a slight bend in it. I don't want to take any chances so I'd like to get it fixed before I put them on.

Thanks.

Michelin Pilot sports, 245/40/18 in the front and 275/35/18 on the rear, AMG OEM Specs.

Kumhos are a really good much cheaper option.

BTW, congratulations on the wheels

those sizes won't fit a CLK correctly

look into

225/40-18
255/35-18

if the car isn't lowered, 245/40 & 275/35 should fit without any problems.

A.) 225/40 & 255/35 is the recommended size-up for the CLK.
B.) 235/40 & 265/35 is also an option if you want a wider stance, note that the overall diameter of the wheels will be about .6" larger.
C.) 245/40 & 275/35 will be even bigger.

but, the larger the tire size, the softer the ride for you.

i would stick to A or B.

Btw, I checked with my shop, and that deal on the 4 Yokohama ES100 (235/40 & 265/35), well, I was pretty much the only person who got that deal. They don't have it no more. Sorry...

Thanks everybody. I'm gonna look for a repair shop around here cause I can't wait to get the rims on the car. Hopefully I can get them on by this weekend. I'll post some pics when they are on.

no problems unless you want to turn the car

Well, given the 235/40 & 265/35 combination, it yields the same overall diameter as if you were to get 19" wheels running 235/35 & 265/30. Speedo & ABS will be off minimally, but that doesn't seem to deter people from getting 19" wheels on their car either.

I agree that the 225/40 & 255/35 is the best setup, I'm just saying that there are options available if you want something a little bigger.

agreed but, the 235/265 combo for 19's is used because there is not a better option unlike the 18" sizes available

355??? thats a Lambo tire size!! I know its a typo....j/k

If anyone is going for the 235/265 route, pay special attention to which tire you'll be choosing, some tires will rub like hell.

haha... good catch... yes, that was a typo. i guess i've been pretty fortunate in the rubbing category. although my 19s rub just a little on the inside against the fenderwell cover

well, my exact words are "rub just a little"... you can't compare that to be a little pregnant. once you are pregnant, you are pregnant until the baby is born(or miscarriage). My rubbing occurs only maybe 1% of the time. if you can be pregnant 1% of the time on a given day, then its a fair comparison, otherwise, thats a lame analogy

the fact of the matter is, there is a difference between rubbing just a little, and constant contact (rubbing a lot).

Some people with 19s will rub constantly against the fender, some will rub constantly with the fenderwell, some will rub constantly against the bolt on the suspension arm. That is considered rubbing a lot.

Mine only rubs when going over large bumps and not all the time. and the rub mark is only about 1" in length when it does make contact

yes, and i'm sure those who are asking would be interested in knowing HOW MUCH IT RUBS.

in my answer of 'it rubs a little', where in that statement does it imply that i'm saying no? my answer of 'it rubs a little' actually answers 2 questions at once: 1.) does it rub? and 2.) how much does it rub?

a more relevant comparison is like when someone asks you "Does it hurt". A scrapped knee will hurt just as if you had ur ***** hacked off, but its a different level of pain. One needs to be attended to, while the other, the ER will leave you for dead before they treat your scrapped knee. both instances deliver pain, but in different levels of severity

unless you are the type of person who goes crying to the ER about a scrapped knee???

good point ... a little graphic for my taste though ... I personally would not accept "a little rubbing" as a proper fit though

oh of course... thats wasn't my intention. It would probably offer a better fit if I didn't lower my car that much. If I resort to #2 pads, then my rubbing should go away...

while all AMG cars do have the fenders rolled (some more aggressively than others) I would still have to see it to believe it myself but, the fender work is done by hand so maybe on his car they got a little carried away and it does fit. In probably over 98% a 245 would not fit a CLK55 let alone any non-AMG CLK

I got my tires today. I ended up going with the Pirelli's P7000 Super Sport. I got the following sizes:

235/40/18 - front
265/35/18 - rear

I'll post pics on W208 forum when I take them tomorrow.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.
