Wheels Decision Help!!!

Hi guys

spring is coming and I need suggestion as for getting some wheels. anyway before that does anybody know the correct offset for W209 CLK 500 using 19 inch?

after looking doing some research and having to dream abt the wheels on my sleep :o, I narrow my choices to 4, anyway these are my pros and cons as far as my choices

Brabus Monoblock VI 2-pc
PROS: hands down the most widely use wheels today I think. You can never go wrong with this wheels
CONS: The most Expensive wheels out of 4 , Heavy

HRE 446R
PROS: Lightweight, custom design
CONS: little bit expensive, havent seen on CLK

BBS LM
PROS: Lightweight, Racing style
CONS:

Carlsson 1/6 evo
PROS: the least expensive, classic style
CONS: not a 2-pc design, heavy, hard to find these days

anyway I will appreciate any comments and inputs

thanks guys

P.S. Luke can you tell me why tirerack does not offer BBS LM 19 for CLK 500?

Here are my take on your 4 choices (I am assuming you're all looking for 19"??):

1) Brabus Monoblock VI milti-pc - the design is the most popular one, but not a lot of people are willing to spend that much on the multi-pc. You're right, those wheels are pretty heavy. It will be for the "look" more than anything else. In terms of "rare", you are still good.

2) HRE 446R (or 546R) - I think this is the best bet of the 4 choices. Lighter, stronger and custom offset. And as you said, less common on a CLK, which is a good thing 'cause I never like to see 3 sets of the same aftermarket wheels within one block!! Why bother changing it if they are all over the place??

3) BBS LM - the most long-lasting design of all time. Look at how many wheels out there are copying the LMs. Personally, I really like the look of LM (thats why I have them on my car, hehe). Unfortunately, LM's in 19's will not clear your front calipers without adding spacers. Only 18's will do, but you have to get 18's from overseas, they dont have it in NA.

4) Carlsson 1/6 - nah, forget it. The design is out. Plus I dont think the monoblock design matches too well with the CLK. Well, they're still obtainable, but I dont think its worth the money now. Better spend a little bit more and get something nicer. If you like monoblocks, I would suggest you to get HRE 544R.

No need to worry offsets for any of the above wheels except BBS LM 19's. All will fit your car.

Thumbs up

have you seen the carlsson 1/16???...very very nice on clk500---there is a thread here that shows nice pics of them on clk, I will try to find this and post the link here...
out of the four you chose, like Harris said, you can't go wrong with either the brabus' or the hre's ....
good luck

this link shows the carlsson clk rs, but you can get an idea of how the 1/16s look...the best on clk imo, but some people didn't like them.
i believe these are hard to find in na, though

One more con on the HRE wheels is they have that damned rolled rim. Hit something hard and unforgiving and these things will bend.

The BBS LM is one of a handful (if that many) that has a true forged rims. There are lots of wheels that have forged centers. Not flow forged, rolled or any other but true forged. It'll take a real whack to bend them especially in the eighteen inchers.

The things that makes HRE's great are the variety of designs and impeccable finishes.

Of your 4 choices, I would say the LM, but I think the Fikse Profile 10 would look even better.

xquisit,

out of the 4 id say the HRE's...BUT! if you like the design of the carlsson 1/16 there are a set of very very similar rims made by dronell.. around 9KG's each in 19x8.5. fully forged 1 pc rim in a high polish finish...if you are interested i can give you the contact for these rims. They are in HK however and you will probably be the first person in america with them on.
