Question for Luke

I just purchased an 05 W211 with the base suspension and 16" wheels. I previously had a CLK and liked the ride/handling of that car.

I would like to put new wheels and tires on the E320 (I like the Antera 309 wheels) and would like to improve the handling without significantly degrading the ride or tire noise. I would like the car to look much more agressive...

What would you recommend?

depends on the weather
18" staggeed wheels and tires along with a set of Eibach springs when they come out (should be this summer) would achieve your stated goal

19" staggared wheels and a full suspension setup instead of just springs (e.g. springs/shocks, coilovers, etc.) would achieve your goal even better!!

What are you guys talking about here? Do you have a specific recommendation? The number of options is pretty staggering and frankly I'm a bit reluctant to believe everyone's marketing hype. I would really appreciate some first hand, and unbiased, opinions...

first hand experience: I changed the wheels and tires on my e320 from the stock 16" to 19" staggarred wheels with wide michelin PS (245 front, 285 rear) tires and the difference in steering feel was very noticable and well worth the cost IMO. the car felt and handled a lot better. I'm sure you'd feel the same/similar difference with 18" wheels/tires. I have no expereience with changing just your springs (and not the shocks) but have heard that its not good for your shocks and can result in a bumpy ride.

I'd say, start with upgrading your wheels and tires and then see if you still want to upgrade your suspension.
