I am thinking of buying Brabus Mono VI 19X8.5 and 9.5 for 1999 E55. I am expecting delivery of W211 E55 around Christmas. Anyone know if offset and stud pattern for W210 and w211 are the same so i can keep the wheels for the new car?

The W211 should share the specs as the W210.

 

I hate to do this to you Peter ... but W210 does not share the same specs with the W211 ... the wheels will not be interchangable

That seems odd! The W202 & W203 wheels are spec'd close together. The W140 and the W220 are spec'd close together, The R129 and R230 are close, the W124 and the W210 are close - But the W210 and W211 will not be!

 

It seemed a bit odd to me also, but Luke is usually right.

 

I'm waiting for an email back from Brabus to clarify.

 

According to the new E class price list on www.mercedes.de

The largest wheels that MB offer as "factory orderable" are the AMG ones, and are

8J x 18 ET30 with 245/40R18 (front)
9J x 18 ET42 with 265/35R18 (rear)

I think the ETxx bit gives you the offset

Richard, if that 18X9 with a 42 offset is correct - that wheels will not mount on the W210. The offset for the 18X9 AMG from the the E55 is 35. The 42 offset will go inward too much.

That 9X18 et42 rear will need a 5 or 10mm spacer to fit W210. That's too bad for W210.

 

To save a lot of time for everyone, I just did a lot of math on this whole wheel thing.

To determine the INBOARD and OUTBOARD widths of a given wheel, one must do the following:

1) Convert the TOTAL wheel width from inches into millimeters. Since 1" = 25.4mm, an 8" wide wheel will have a total millimeter width of 203.2mm.

2) Divide the total millimeter width by 2 (so as to determine what the INBOARD and OUTBOARD widths would be if this was a "0" offset wheel -- ET 0). In the case of the 8" wide wheel, the INBOARD and OUTBOARD widths will BOTH be 101.6mm.

3) For instance, we know that the offset of the OEM W211 E55 8J x 18" front wheel is +30 (i.e. ET +30). Thusly, this means that the total inboard width of this wheel is 30mm MORE than the corresponding outboard width. Therefore, in the case of the above wheel, we would add 30mm to the 101.6mm "0" offset figure, making for a total INBOARD width of 131.6mm. Therefore, if the ENTIRE wheel has a total width of 203.2mm, the OUTBOARD width is calculated as follows: 203.2mm - 131.6mm = 71.6mm.

For the sake of brevity, I will post the OUTBOARD and INBOARD (in that order) dimensions for the following wheels:

a) Front OEM 8J x 18" ET +30:
71.6mm & 131.6mm

b) Rear OEM 9J x 18" ET +39:
75.3mm & 153.3mm

c) Front AMG Multi-Piece W211 E55 8.5J x 19" ET +30:
77.95mm & 137.95mm

d) Rear AMG Multi-Piece W211 E55 9.5J x 19" ET +31:
89.65mm & 151.65mm

e) Front AMG Multi-Piece R230 SL 8.5J x 19" ET +25:
82.95mm & 132.95mm

f) Rear AMG Multi-Piece R230 SL 10J x 19" ET +28:
99m & 155mm

The upshot to all of this for the rear wheels is that the AMG Multi-Piece W211 E55 rear wheels are going to stick out at least 14.35mm more than their OEM counterparts. 14.35mm is a little more than 0.5". In turn, the AMG Multi-Piece R230 SL rear wheels are going to stick out nearly 10mm (i.e. slightly less than 0.5") more than their W211 E55 Multi-Piece counterparts. I say "at least" because this does not take into account the increased TOTAL tire section width (Harris, as Stephens says, this means across the entire tire, not just the inside, etc.) that will result from running a wider tire (than the 265 35 ZR18 OEM) on a wider wheel. In most cases, increasing wheel width by 0.5", results in the given tire's TOTAL section width increasing by a corresponding 0.2" (as Stephens says).

I think what was confusing Harris was Stephens use of the the analogy of the effect of mounting a wider tire on a given wheel, in order to demonstrate in concrete terms to Harris of the resultant increase in outboard wheel width (i.e. so as to attemp to calculate the impact of mounting a rear AMG Multi-Piece R230 SL rear wheel on the back of a W211 E55, etc.).

If someone wants to do the math in order chart out the INBOARD and OUTBOARD dimensions of Stephens' Brabus 19" wheels (i.e. I'm too lazy to go back to the thread where he states their total widths and offsets), please feel free to do so!
