Some family jewels tend to be more precious than others.

Take, for example, this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, which has remained in one family for 60 years, as highlighted in a recent Yahoo Autos report.

Of course, if you’re a family that owns companies that make things like the Agusta helicopter and the MV Agusta motorcycles, I’m sure you learn to appreciate the value of collectibles like the Gullwing. After all, a late model helicopter made by the Agusta’s Italian company goes for anywhere from $1.6 million to $7 million, which means there’s probably never a pressing need to sell off personal assets for cash.

But even then, I guess all good things must come to an end. After nearly six decades, there perhaps could be another family taking ownership of this treasure. The ’55 Gullwing will cross the block at the upcoming RM Sotheby’s auction house in Monaco on May 14. We can only imagine the kind of money it will fetch. Any guesses?
