Cylinder Misfire ?
Last night ran the car super hard. Car redlined stayed for a few seconds. I let off gas and the car had a sputter. Felt like an ignition issue. Engine light came on. Scared the crap out of me. Turned car off started up again and ran fine. Took to buddy's shop in morning and read the error as a Mis fire in cylinder 3. Said it can be plug, or wire opening up, or ( can't remember the name of the part ) but it's where the wires plug into on the engine. I recently in the last 5 months put Denso Iridum plugs and magnecore wires on. I'm thinking wires. Have any of you had this issue. Need the least exspensive route to fix this one.

Evan, swap out coil from #3 to any other one. If missfire now moves to that cylinder than it is a coil, if not - try swapping each plug wire, if not - than move plugs, if not - than there are two possibilities - problem with harness or DME - or mechanical problem.
My guess, bad wire or coil.
Good Luck!
If you need more help, I am in Costa Mesa.

Thanks Vadim
I'll give it a shot, Engine light came off now, like nothing ever happened. I imagine it will misfire more and more as time goes on.

I am dealing with this right now...
I had Magnecor wires and Denso plugs. Everything ran fine for a year. Recently started getting random misfire code, and pending misfire on 6. Changed plugs, wires, swapped coils/plugs/wires, nothing, same codes. Traced all ignition wiring back to ecu, all good. Compression and leakdown, perfect! With 122k on the car, I was a bit worried, but glad everything checked out mechanically. Checking fuel pressure and injectors as I write. I will check back in when I figure out what on earth is going on....Hopefully I will have some answers by the end of the day. Frustrating

damn, I have been dealing with the exact same problem for a month, misfire randomly on all six cylinders when I push the car hard, it would return back to normal when it is being restarted. changed coils, plugs, checked sensors, still nothing. will do the check up again tomorrow and see if it's related to the fuel system such as fuel regulator or not.

i dont know... if its the Mag wires or not... im using them... NO issues... in my past experience with Denso Plugs (on my Evo 8) if you run too cool of a plug you can get crazy misfires ... from like you said running the car extremely hard... i was getting kind of the same type of reads on my Evo but at first i thought it was "turbo creep" or an over boost. but found out i was running a plug that was to cool... and was throwing my timing off a bit...
as for the plug wires coming off... get some elector something silicone and they will stay on... also make sure when you push them on they click... if you dont feel them click or hear it... then check the inside of the plug before trying to force it on. ...
i know in today's "SUPER GREAT" quality of products like spark plugs... its hard for them to go bad... but Denso is a racing company and race plugs, drag plugs and everyday driving plugs are all different... b/c its a race plug doesn't mean its better... and honestly unless you're tracking your car or running the drag strip and need to knock off .001 of a second off of your time... you dont need race plugs... OE plugs are great for everyday use...

Don't have the stock wires anymore. Thing ran like a champ for 6 months. Since I know which cylinder that is misfiring can I just replace those two wires with oem.

Not sure if you can 'mix and match', but if you can, here's an extra set I have that you are welcome to......let me know. These came off the same heads I got recently (I got rid of some cams from these heads recently in the classified section). The engine block was FUBAR, but the rocker assembly seems to be ok.

I PMed you.
It got worse....Much worse....Wanna see something that you never see happen? Take a look at the passenger side below. Ever seen a roller separate, and walk itself into the side of a rocker, and make a new groove? Well you have now. The one pictured is the worst. The one next to it is starting to develop a groove as well. Also #3 has the same problem, not pictured. Just crazy...

Whoa, Brandon. Sorry to see that kind of carnage. I’ll be pulling my covers next weekend for an inspection. Hope you’re able to get it squared away pronto.
Kudos to boohooramblers for offering assistance. That’s merely another reason why I so enjoy being a part of this forum. Patrick, if we ever catch up for some links and a 19th, it’s on me.

Both Jerry and Patrick have been extremely gracious in helping me get this sorted out, with much less hit to the wallet. Hopefully everything will be back together on Wednesday.

Timing chain is original. I was staring at it the other day thinking maybe I should take care of it now. Since compression and leakdown were great, I dont think there is any valve issue. Valve springs? I want to get the rest of the parts ordered today.
