Wheel locks

Can anyone recommend a good type of wheel lock and what size I might need? I found some older threads, but they also contain videos of people easily removing the deterrents. Are the $40 kind just as good because anyone who really wants it will take it? Or are the Japanese kind really that much more effective?

Thanks.

The best i've seen are Rimlox. I recommend them if you have some seriously nice/expensive wheels. Rimlox has a guarantee of replacing ur wheels/tires with another exact set if they get stolen

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Rimlox called me back with a quote of $399 for 4 lugs including free installation. They do have a 100% guarantee for their rims if yours are stolen and note that they've never had to pay out once because theirs have never been beat.

Sounds kind of steep, but I just might indulge. I also PM'd Peter for good measure.

I just ordered the Rimlox for $349...the guy cut me a break when he called back. They're going to be black lugs and they're going to sell me matching lugs at cost. I should be getting them in about 2 weeks or so and they'll ship the lugs directly to the installer (free installation and free shipping) so when I get them installed, I'll snap some pics and report back.

Well, they guarantee to replace my rims should anything happen. They've been in business for over 10 years and they said that they've never had to pay for anyone's rims because none have ever been stolen with their locks. That sounds pretty good to me.

How do you know exactly the correct size you need if you have aftermarket wheels? What info does Rimlox need to determine the proper size?

I gave them the model and size of my HREs. They're going to a shop that sells HREs today to confirm the type and size of lugs I'll need.

i believe you can request either OEM ball seats or aftermarket seats when you order your HREs, as they are custom drilled per order. You're likely going to have to check your set of wheels to find out.

You would need to look at the bolt seat, or take the wheel off and call HRE with your Serial #.

Each wheel from HRE is custom. Therefore it is best to contact us directly to find out if your particular wheels are ball seat or conical.

Please email us at info@hrewheels.com or call us at 760-598-1960.

Don't forget to supply us with serial number from the backpad of the wheel, will make it easier for us to help you out.

I don't have that info, but I copied Rob from Vivid. Between the two of you, you should be able to look it up, right?

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm willing to pay extra for the guarantee and replacement clause. These and a Viper (or something like it) alarm and I'll be set.

no problem! rimlox is pricey but if you think about it, if they are willing to replace your wheels and tires, it's not bad at all

Reviving this old thread...

So, the C63 BS has a required wheel lug bolt torque spec of 133 ft-lbs. Which is significantly higher than most cars, and higher than most wheel lock bolts are rated for (usually topping off at 96 - 100 ft-lbs).

Those of you with awesome locks here, do you know what yours are rated for?

I ordered a set of titanium TiKORE locks that are rated up to 150 ft-lbs. We'll see how they hold up. Still, curious about the awesome locks mentioned in this thread.
