W204 vs. W205 63?
Hey guys, I'm on the road to buying a C63 AMG. In stock, they have two black models: one being the W204, and another one being the new W205 (63 S). I really like the fact there is more HP, etc. but I just admire the W204's looks. How do both stack up? Of course, the W204 is substantially cheaper but I am not worried about that. What should I pick?

Drive them both, see which one you like better- the big naturally aspirated v8 or the small twin turbo v8 in terms of driving feel etc. Both cars have modding potential, both cars will depreciate over time.
Also which w204 c63 are you looking at exactly? A standard one, performance package, 507 or black series?
Another area to consider is the looks between the two some prefer w204 some w205 (sharp edges vs rounded)
Then theres the sound from the w204

I really like the sharp edges, but what I really like are the memories I had in a W204 C180 I owned back in Brazil. The interior just reminds me of it and I love it, and so does the exterior. I still do like the W205, and the fact that the car is brand new is another point, as in people will know I'm getting it new, unlike the 204 where some might think it's pre-owned. I also can special order it. Also, there is a performance advantage, but honestly I'm afraid to handle all that since I've never driven a car with more than 300hp.

If price isn't a factor, then I would just get the w205. Nostalgia aside, you may grow tired of the older w204 quickly.

But the box is clumsy in auto mode around town , and I don't like the rear end ! The wagon is sharp though , but I don't like wagons ! But that TT motor is epic

*Said no one ever*. There are tons of thread about this already ggonzaga, some like the styling while others hate it. Yes the w205 has the amazing power but personally I think it looks horrible. Also is the first year bugs, of course every car will have it's kinks to work out but I would wait until they get them tuned in a bit more. It comes down to styling, which one do you like more?

Really personal preference at this point. The W205 has grown on me. I do like it. I think with the right set of wheels and a slight drop it looks great.
Tuning wise the W205 will have much more options available since its FI. If your into that sort of thing.

If you can get over the looks (w204 looks better, but, the w205 isn't ugly by any means) then I'd surely go after the 205.
It'll have a longer lasting factory warranty and it outperforms the 204 essentially everywhere. I just got done reading how the w205 c63s (Sedan because coupe isn't out) is faster in the figure 8 and has the same g's around a skid pad as the w204 black series... Thats crazy.
The 205 will also demolish a 204. Even if a 204 is tuned on headers it'll have a hard time keeping up and if the 205 is tuned forget it.

You think so? I'd be owning the car for 3, 4 years. I'm just afraid of getting the older version if the new version outnumbered it significantly, but I never drove both cars.

Plus, frankly even if the 205 is more potent I'm just starting at the AMG world. I think the legendary 204 will suit me good, but the 205 too, no clue. And whoever said for me to get an M3, never, ever. I'm not paying 70+ grand for a car that has an inline-6 and that without the 2 M badges it has it would look exactly like a 335i pretty much.

I never really had a sports car, so I don't know much about tuning. What are the pro/cons? I am just afraid of my car turning out just like those old Toyotas that get ridiculously tuned and they try racing a Ferrari and stuff blasting music from the aftermarket stereo that's worth more than the car itself.

I like the appearance of both, but the W204 just looks sharper and more manly. I will be getting it black, 204 or 205 and the fact there is only ONE 204, and that one being black just makes me feel there's something special on the 204 that I am underestimating.

I never drove a C63 either before I got mine. I only read reviews, watched videos and read hundreds of forum posts for about a year. They were just starting to make the W205 when I was deciding on my options for the W204. I then contemplated a good while over if I should wait for the W205 or stay with the W204. Yes the W205 will have the power advantage, it has a bit better interior (minus the ginormous ipad and gauges), and it saves your personal driving settings.
What sold me was the pure sound and aggressiveness of the W204. It was just so raw and wild and the last V8 that would be made. I would suggest if you still can't decide, pick out all the options and colors, line up the cars side by side and fully inspect them. Make a pros and cons for each and eventually you will get down to one.

I think the W204 is the right choice over the W205.
That said you need to get a good deal. So here are some pointers. Act like you want a W205 (even though you don't). Remind the salesman that this car is basically 2 years old since there will be 2016s sitting on his lot (I bought my 2014 in Aug of 2013). Check the manufacture date in the door jam (they stopped making 2014 sedans in like March of 2014 so that car is at least 1 year old). I'm not sure how big a discount you can get, but don't think $10k is out of the realm of possibility given the age and desirability of this car. This car (like mine) isn't going to be a collectible. Don't get excited about the car and be prepared to walk away at the end of your first meeting. I think you could get a killer deal if the dealer is willing to play ball, and they should.
Post the VIN here and someone can tell you exactly when it was made and what options it has. Knowledge is power.

seems like your mind is already set with the 204 even before posting this thread. i cant blame you, although i loooooove the C63S especially the front, something about the 204 that makes you want to get in, start the car and floor it every time you look at it. goodluck with the purchase mate!

I would wait until the new C63 coupe gets unveiled in a couple of months. It looks less "curvy" than the sedan and I believe it looks pretty good based off the camo shots I've seen. But, I'm in the market for a W204 C63 AMG coupe

I'd get the 205. It just is more of everything the 204 is. More power, more torque, more grip, better transmission, better diff, easier to modifiy, nicer interior, better handling, better braking better fuel economy (never thought I'd say that of an AMG car).
Never drove one though, so yeah there could be something there, but from the reviews, car seems to be the same animal the 204 was. My dealer started it to let me hear it and it sounds as mean and nasty as the 204. I quickly walked away from the car as I don't "need" to change my car anytime soon and every minute spent too close to the 205 could mean trouble...
If money is no object, this is not even close to be a tough decision in my opinion.

To tell you the truth it won't be a collectors car. Only the C63 Black series will be a collector car.

I had a w205 c63s for 2 or 3 weeks. I traded it for a 2015 c63 507 coupe.
The car has epic performance. Makes driving fast way easier and it's really just a blast to drive. Unless you have really driven it, it's way better than you think it is. Interior is really nice. The interior quality is good. Nothing rattles. My car had a lot of exterior trim issues. I lost confidence in the build quality and I really don't have time to get bumpers straightebed or have trim pieces replaced, so I got out. Really cost me nothing.
The 507 coupe is badass. It looks way meaner. It's not nearly as nimble or light on its feat as the w205 c63s though. I think I'll probably go back to a w205 in a year or two.
If US bound coupes are built in Germany I'll most definitely be ordering that car. Take my money!!!!
