Radar Detector Hardwire

I have searched both the dirver's side dash fuse station and the cabin lighting area near the rearview mirror for a suitable wire which would only be hot when the ignition is on. I am running out of options. Hopefully someone has already invented this wheel. The wiring on the black series is different than other CLK w209 models. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Joe

Couple notes:
-many of the circuits remain hot only for a short period and then turn off after a delay..
-I took power off the rear power plug (laptop/game power source plug) which is switched with ignition..or if you have one in console tap into it

Do you recall where this wire is located or the color of the wire?

There is a DIY somewhere here, maybe in the C63 forum. But you can tap into the overhead lights if you are looking to put it up by the mirror. There is a delay as Nanook said, but the lights do go out, so the radar does as well.

Its easy to unclip the plastic cover and just use a tester to find a acc and negative.

I had mine hardwired by using the Escort supplied Hardwire Kit.

I would stay away from splicing into anything. Just purchase the hardwire kit from escort.

Easy install and works great.

My local shop installed mine for me, but you can simply hide the wire by pushing it into the seams of the dash and between the window/"A" pillar for your desired placement.

In the process of doing this with a test light and I cannot find a singe switched +12v in the over head light panel. As it is I only find two wires with +12v and neither is switched....and they're in the same connector. Frustrating

Remember most of these (console) wires stay hot throughout the shutdown delay then go dead ,,,is it 10 or 14 minutes after door is closed or ignition off ???..Something like that so they may appear hot when you test them but may eventually go cold

Nanook, the only two hot wires in the over head panel stay hot all the time. I checked them long after everything powered down and they were still hot.

Derek, did you run them up the A pillar and then over head?

yep , remove a pillar it just uses two clip to stay in place, then I used a credit card to get the cable tucked above the headliner .

Use a metal screw for the ground.

Thanks Derek. I already used a sheet metal screw for ground during test, so that's good to go.
I'll pull the A pillar next.
Cheers!

Any tricks or tips on removing the pillar? I may try to hardwire my V1 into the Black Series this weekend.

Just pull from one side, there is a clip all the way at the top and bottom so you can pull from the middle or top. Nothing can break so don't worry.

Also I'm going to put a piece of felt tape under my radar. (It hits the rear view mirror under hard bumps and makes a rattling sound) this should help stop it.
Just a tip
