Seat handles - Chrome peeling off!
Hi,
I wondered if anyone else with a coupe had experienced this issue and could give input...
On my coupe, the drive and passenger seats have a chrome covered 'handle' that is used to flip the seat forward allowing passengers to access the rear seats.
I've noticed that the chrome on these handles has started to peel significantly.
I will take this to the dealer and hope to get both handles replaced under warranty. The passenger side chrome peeled enough that it actually cut my skin - in a similar fashion to a paper cut. To be clear, this is not the exterior door handle or the interior door handle - see the attached picture for reference.
Anyone also having peeling rear access handles?
Thanks,
Rich

My driver side is peeling as well, I noticed it a year ago but haven't bothered to do anything about it. I might just break off the loose bits and spray it with plastidip.

Just to close out the thread - I was able to get both the driver and passenger seat handles replaced yesterday (dealer had to order the parts) under warranty.

2011 E550 Coupe
Thank you for this Thread. My passenger chrome covered handles are peeling badly as well on my 2011 E550 Coupe. I am going to have this covered under my warranty this week.
Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses common problems in 2011 E550 Coupes? My warranty is up in the next 6 months. Thanks

I've read a few people have experienced this. I hope I don't with my 2013. And if I do, it better be during the warranty period. I rarely touch that handle since 99% of the time, it's only my wife and myself.

I also went back to my dealer they said it is not covered under warranty. As it falls under trim which is specifically mentioned in the small print of my tier 1 MB warranty. Not happy at all..any suggestions..

Thanks..
I think if the car is under the 3 year manufacturer's warranty then I think they cannot refuse it. Are you able to provide any details on the dealership that you went to.
I'm not impressed by the extended warranty from MB. It almost suggests that you are better off going to buy a 3rd party warranty and not MB.

Same issue in our 2010 E550, dealer replaced under warranty. Try another dealer or even a different Service Writer, maybe one that a friend uses and go back to the same person once you get a good one. This is our first Benz and I luckily have a great service writer who goes above and beyond so I will always go back to him.
So far under warranty or just free we have had the chrome trim replaced, the clip for the mesh thing by the passenger left foot, Command updated for Bluetooth audio, parking brake springs and clips replaced, seat track-because something fell into track and bent the whole thing while moving seat, differential seals were leaking so that was fixed, and the main battery. The battery was weird, dealer wanted a few hundred but a call in to Roadside Assist and they came out to the house and replaced and installed a new battery for free since it was under 4yr 50k.

Thanks for the reply.
I shall try another dealer as I thought the Hughes of Beaconsfield were good but looks like I stand corrected. I think most dealers treat their customers well unless the car was purchased from a non-MB dealer like mine.
The warranty I have is the MB extended warranty as I bought my car under 3 years old, cannot understand why they are not honouring..
A disappointing result as i thought it would have been done just as others have on the forum.

E350 coupe seat handle chrome defect danger
My recently acquired 2013 E350 coupe seat handle just gave me a gash much more than a paper cut. It appears the chrome has peeled & underneath but unseen is a razor sharp edge. A dealer said no problem make an appointment & they will take care of it. Based on the number of posts it would seem that MB should be aware of this defect.

B8.5 Audi S5 3.0 TFSI Coupe
Can't say I ever had a problem on mine but it happened to my dad when he was trying to access the rear seats on my sister's E-Cabrio, was a hell of a cut it gave him too. The best or nothing? Okay then - glad I've traded up for an Audi S5 Coupe in truth.

Thanks buddy, it's day and night better and that is difficult to say coming from a through and through Benz family. The E-Cabrio, fortunately has gone to a good home, a guy upgrading from an early CLK320 who'd seen the build thread bought it saying it was the only car that had ticked their boxes as a suitable successor - not sure they're a registered member but they mentioned that they'd followed the progress of it. (No it didn't have the red wheels on for the sale!! )

Does anyone know the part number for the seat handles? More specifically, the passenger side. My car is not under warranty. Thanks!

Dr Nab, please elaborate on how the Audi is better. Very curious as to your thoughts. If you have a thread on it, please link us. Want to know what aspects its better and why. thanks

Just paint the handle. These are bad pics but i just used a rattle can of plastidip. Peel off the remaining chrome then paint the white plastic underneath (*** make sure the chrome is completely removed even on the back side of the handle.***) . After it dried the matte finish is smooth and looks completely stock. A few months of daily grabbing on the handle to access the back seat and the plastidip holds up great.
