Popping sound from panorama sunroof.
Hi guys,
Over the past few weeks I've noticed that every time I enter an incline on an angle, such as making a turn into a gas station or driveway from the street, where the front left wheel ascends before the front right or vice-versa, I am getting a pretty loud popping sound from the rear section of the panorama sunroof. It is not a subtle creek or rattle but a very audible pop. At first I thought it had something to do with the cold weather but it has been nearly 60 and above here in NYC and it is still happening. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

It has to do with the chassis flexing, due in part to the absence of roof material because of the panorama roof. The dealer may be able to lubricate the seals, which seems like what you're experiencing here when the car flexes. I don't have the pano roof, but I usually order krytox 205 and apply it myself to the seals to quiet them down and allow them to move without sticking.

This can be fixed. My dealer lubricated and made some "adjustments" and all pano roof sounds went away. If the dealer can't fix this, they don't know what they are doing -- find another dealer. It is not normal or acceptable for the pano roof to make noise.

Same noise with regular sunroof
Dealer lubed it and that seemed to help for a while, but it came back.
Have owned several cars with sunroofs and none ever made a noise. Of course they were made in Asia.

Does anyone know what the MB specified service interval is for the pano roof? I think if it is maintained properly with the required lubing and adjustments that is the best way to keep the noises away...

Krytox based lubes are the only lubes that work on things like this. The standard weatherstrip lube won't last once the UV attacks the rubber surfaces. VW uses it exclusively on that P.O.S. EOS thing as well as Chevy for the vette removable roof panel. It is NOT cheap, but you need very little.

C250 coupe panoramic roof
I have had my roof adjusted and torqued by my dealership around 20k miles and now at 42k it needs adjustment again. Not only does it make loud pops over inclines it now squeaks like a cricket on city roads.

Going through this right now. Same issue on my 12 e63. Once in a while a very loud pop or cracking noise from the roof near the rear. Like a stone hitting it.
Just got a call back from the dealership where it is in for service. Said that they would need to dismantle the whole headliner to get at the frame and if there was nothing broken but it merely needed adjusting that I would have to cover the 5 hrs of labor it took to dismantle!
Adjustments to get rid of this kind of noise is not covered by warrantee?
Going to have to go somewhere else.

Origin of noise 42180-42185 Noise from center Panoramic roof. Removed Headliner for access and found cross support bar mounting bolts loose. Removed and applied loc-tite to threads and re- installed
from timing logged on paper work it seems about 1.5 to 2 hours of labor costs. Issue seems to have been resolved..

2012 C350 Coupe 4matic
I'm taking my '12 c350 coupe in on Tuesday 09/15/15 for this exact issue. when I called I talked to service person and they said they never heard of this before but she's not a "technician" so don't hold her to that. I have printed off strings of these emails showing multiple issues across the board with different models and the pano roof being the issue/problem.
i literally just bought the car a month ago (certified pre-owned) in which i was told that i still have about a year on my factory warranty, and then the CPO wil kick in after that. there's no way that ill be paying for this as it's clearly a defect in the model. i hope someone can provide that TSB number because that will get us all out of the dog house----please help!

I have a 2012 E350 CPO. It was doing the same thing. second trip to the dealer fixed it. They didn't list a TSB. It say cause " loss of torque" Says they removed the head liner, roof console, trim, and side air bags and used loc-tite on all bolts. My service guy said they removed the whole sun roof, tightened all the bolts and re installed the sun roof. I actually recorded the noise for them, since the first time they didn't hear it

I'm getting the popping noise too. My car is out of warranty, anyone have a DIY solution for this? Sounds like the bolts are loosening and re-tightening with loctite will do the trick. A guide on how to remove the headliner would be helpful here, anyone have tips on how to do that properly?

Got mine fixed on Wednesday, here is what it says
R&R over head control panel, rear view mirror, left and right grab handles, left and right sun visors, headliner. Re-tightened sun roof rails.
I think there is an OP CODE 681611 (not sure though), the service advisor said that is a service bulletin out on how to fix it but no recall.
Mine is still under warranty and it was fixed at no cost to me.
Hope this helps.

Got the popping a few weeks ago. Car is in getting it fixed now...also had noise coming in from "rear hatshelf" area. Didn't know that hook was meant originally for hanging hats! I feel enlightened now.
Oh, and this is hilarious..the rental '16 E350 I have has the whistling noise from the front bumper assembly...

Wow all of you guys are getting a similar noise? That is just a shame that such high quality cars have such a consistent issue with rattling and noise. Sorry to hear that you guys have to go through this.

Well, for my part -- I've had the car sideways quite a bit, plus lots of spirited driving on backroads. Can't honestly be surprised some roof bits loosened up on a 4,300+ pound car...

So now I know that this problem isn't limited to the W211. I will never ever buy another mercedes with a panoramic roof.
