shift to P before turning the key off?
when you need to shut down the GLK, while you're in D, do you shift into P first before turning off the key?
The lazy version of me just wanna skip the first step, and turn the key off while I'm in D, and the shifter jumpes to N, then P when I pull out the key....
anyone know if this is OK? I'm not gonna kill the transmission by doing this, right? it seems to be a little smoother too. because when I push the shifter to P, I feel a little jolt from the transmission. but when I do the key turn off method, the shifter goes to N first, then to P, in total silent and buttery smoothness... that's probably another reason I prefer to do it this way...

the the way, BMW has a similar style of shifting mechanism, and when I bought my 328i two years ago, the sales guy went out of his way to teach me to do the engine shut down without shifting to P and let the computer finish the course...
well, that ended up being a lemon buy back after a few months, and countless check engine lights and a new transmission swap.... :-p

What is the benefit by doing that?
By the way, you can not turn off the car while driving if you have keyless-go.

the benefit is just one less thing to do when shutting down the car....
also, no jolt from the transmission when shifting from D to P manually....
I would prefer to do it this way as long as there's no harm done to any internal components....

It goes into Park automatically when you shut off the ignition and remove the key. I don't know about the keyless.

It's habit for me to put it into park when I stop, then switch off the engine...

The transmission is an intelligent feature. I tried putting it in R with the emergency brake ON when I was installing the parktronic sensors and it will revert to P after a few seconds- pretty cool safety feature.

I just got off the phone with my MB sales guy.... He said that the computer will shift to P for you if you forget to do it yourself. BUT it's not meant to be done every time for years and years....
I would like to disagree with his theory....

I read about the feature in the manual which is why I posted to this originally.
Read the manual. It would be ridiculous to believe a salesman talking out the wrong end of his body. There's really not much to talk about!
