Boot/Trunk Luggage load assistant
Apologises if there is a better place to put this but I am anewbie. I have owned my SL500 for 6 weeks now and only yesterday was the biggrin on face removed.
What happened
I had the roof down and called into my hardware store to buysome paint.
I’ve searched for the flashing light in these forum and ongoogle with no luck. Most people seem tothink of the trunk/boot assist as the soft close. So the answer may be outthere but I just can’t find it L
Before I’d bought the SL I’d beenwarned just how important the PSE pump is. So I looked at the pump. There are two triangle facing the rear whichI assume are the max and minimum levels. The fluid level is between thetriangles so I assume lack of fluid isn’t the problem.
I disconnected the conveniencebattery hoping that might reset it. Still no joy and button is still flashing.
To make matter worse the specialist I use is on vacation foranother week and we are due a big thunderstorm this afternoon. (Note to self always carry a tarpaulin andbungies)
Help!
What happened
I had the roof down and called into my hardware store to buysome paint.
- I opened the Boot/Trunk
- Using the load assistant button I raised theclosed roof to access the boot separator
- Opened the boot separator and put the paint inthe boot
- Closed the boot separator
- Pressed the load assistant button but nothinghappened
- I wondered if the convenience battery had enoughjuice, so I started the engine.
- Still the button didn’t work and I then noticedit was flashing.
- I tried closing the roof but not surprisingly Igot the boot isn’t closed message.
- Limped home very very slowly.

You may want to "play" with the boot separator a few times to make sure that the system realizes it is closed and latched completely. Sometimes mine looks like it is in position, but it apparently isn't.

solved it!
I was advised to ensure the boot was fully opened. Once I did that, the flashing cleared an I could lower the closed roof section, and then the boot.
I know what you mean about the boot separator. But I checked that.

So ... did you get it sorted? How'd you do it?

Once in a while mine will do that and I discovered that the trunk lid had dropped a bit--probably because the struts are getting a bit tired. I just nudge the lid up and the rest works as it should.

I checked mine out on that today. Yes, indeed, it must be opened 100% or it is "no go" . I did notice an audible "ding" alarm goes off on mine up front in the dash area if the lid is not all the way up. You might not hear it if you are at the back of the car when it goes off.

Interesting.
Does anyone know what the solution might be if the red light for the Load Assist button is off, either with the Vario roof open or closed (with consequent non-operative lift/lower function for the stowed roof)?
Cheers.
