Problem with the SLK hard top ?
Has anyone experienced problem with the SLK hard top not opening randomly?
The trunk would open but the top will not release. This problem comes and goes. Wanted to hear from this group before taking it to the dealer for FA (failure analysis).
The symptom is the trunk opens but the top itself doesn't move. It can happen either when opening or closing the roof and the problem is intermittent.
Thanks from Spain.

I've only had mine for 3 1/2 months, and most of that has been winter time... but when I HAVE been able to use the top I haven't had a single problem and mine is 2 years old.

It's getting stuck where the top meets the front window(at the headliner). Sometimes a slight push where the roof folds will help.

I've had that problem! Trunklid did open but the roof would not move and when i tried to retract the trunklid to the original position, nothing happened so there i am standing with the trunklid open in a not so good place ...(very annoying) but after 'bout 10 min it all worked again really strange... has happened twice.
The microswitches that controlls the movment of the roof is kind of a common problem, some of the members of this board has had them replaced. If your still on warranty that won't be a problem i guess!
Goodluck!

Microswitches are circuitbreakers (kind of like ordinary switches but smaller)

There was a problem with the microswitches in the '99 slk. The trunk would open but the top wouldn't disengage. It started when I was in Palm Springs during a heat spell....100+ degrees. After the car cooled down, it was back to normal. There's a service warrant out on this for the '99 model. Seems a bad batch of microswitches went into those cars.

I just started having the same problem. Trunk lid opens and stops, have to wait 10 minutes for it to work again. I'm sending it in next week(still under warranty), will keep evereyone posted on the repair.

Have had the same problem.
Roof failed 3 years ago and then again yesterday on my '99 230SLK - both on hot days in the sun.
Exact same problem: trunk opens but roof won't go down/up.
Thanx for the info on the micro-controllers. Was worried it was something more serious.
Let's see if the dealer will fix it out of warranty.

And if you wanna do it yourself, I could send you the pictures. Or I'll try posting them here.

I just bought an SLK 230 last week from a friend. He never had trouble with the roof, but I have twice in the week. My only concern is that the switch does not flash a fault. The deck opens and it sounds like the locks release, but the top itself does not move. Both times I've had trouble were hot (90) and humid. If the switches mentioned above are bad should I be getting a fault flash or not?
Thanks,
Todd
