Mrcedes launches SLS AMG GT model
Starting with the 2013 model year, all SLS AMG will be upgraded to a GT version in both coupe and roadster bodies. It now makes 583 hp (20 more), upgraded DCT transmission, a stiffer suspension, and a bunch of other cool stuff:

For a car that's only been here for less than two years, that upgrade didn't take long!

Should have just called it the 2013 SLS. Software updates for ECU, transmission, dampers, and "smoked" exterior trim...for €21,000 more. No hardware/mechanical changes from the press release.

As an existing SLS owner, I hope the performance upgrades can be retrofitted, otherwise, this sucks big time.
It just seems to be an ECU upgrade and some software upgrade to the gearbox so it should be doable; but knowing Mercedes... *sigh*
Please don't leave existing owners in the cold AMG!!

Was just about to post that man.
The link shows that the Mclaren MP4-12c is getting similar upgrades in 2013, but the company is offering current owners ALL THE UPGRADES FOR FREE.
I hope AMG will offer it's customers the same courtesy, even if it's for a nominal fee. These performance upgrades would not be difficult to install in the original SLS.

The only thing that I would want out of that "GT" package is the ecu retune and DCT software upgrade, other than that, I am not a fan of the lights being blacked out nor the finish on the wheels really does nothing for me. I am not crazy of the interior finishing of blacked out vents etc, I kind of like the aluminum trim pieces I have in mine, thought the red stitching is a nice touch, not sure how that would make a difference in my car as it is all red interior. The "issue" I have really is in the pricing, in euro spec the car is about 20K euros more, that is alot of money for the upgrades, I sincerely hope that AMG can do a ECU tune even if it is a few more bucks for existing SLS owners, I would be all over that.

But lets at least have the option of upgrading the performance!

2012 SLS AMG
Not sure how much faith you guys put into RennTech but their ECU 'should' give the same performance. Would be interesting to see an ECU car of theirs go against a stock or SLS GT. Spoke w/ them and they are claiming 593hp and 15+ lb/ft of torque..... Also top speed is de-limited to a 'claimed' 210 mph

And you'll be able to smoke the SLS GT really bad

You may be right, but I prefer to have a factory waranty that is validated through MB, that way there is no surprise.

If you install different air filters will that effect your warranty?
BMC have released a good set of sports filter for the SLS .

When I heard "SLS GT" I expected more of the Audi R8 GT
An Audi R8 GT gets:
*a standard roll cage
*four-point harnesses
*fiber-reinforced plastic racing seats
*fixed rear wing
*race compound tires
*lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber bodywork
*adjustable coilover suspension
*sport exhaust
*increase from 518 to 552 hp
*a weight reduction of 220lbs.
What we got was a 2013 SLS with
*smoked interior and exterior trim pieces
*Upgraded ECU/TCU/Damper software (same hardware)
*the option spend an additional €6,000 over the new SLS GT price for quilted leather
*a "GT" badge
So the price is jumping from €183,000 to €204,000 and the only difference is that they black anodize the aluminum, red stitching with a little more alcantara, "smoke" the lights, new software, and a badge.
Forgive me for being unimpressed.

I'm unmoved by the announcement. Firstly, I absolutely love my SLS. It really doesnt get much better than this. Oh you say, what about more Horsepower with the upgrade...sorry, 3 % more horsepower doesn't excite me even if it were free. And shaving an extra .1 secs off 0-60?...again, not getting me worked up. Unless other out there are on the track daily with their cars, I somehow doubt you'll ever notice the difference.
Yes, there may be some nice to have features like quicker shift ratios but I never thought mine were slow! And that cosmetic crap is just that...crappola

You can buy clean 2011 SLSs now with under 10 k miles for the 160's, there are about 6 of them available on autotrader, etc.......
Car has already dropped in value and this newest iteration will not help to maintain values.......in 5 years, low mileage cars will easily be 100K.......depreciation curve will be like SL 65, but a little bit slower and that is with no telling what future SLS iterations will be coming in the next 5 years......
All high end manufacturers are doing these type of product line extensions, even Ferrari has in the past...599 GTB...then 599 GTO, etc..
They all keep loyalists, lose loyalists, but attract new well heeled people to the brand to keep the sales and profits up......

You are right in the USA the dealers are very strict about mods. By the way, congratulations on your purchase of your SLS, sorry for being late I just noticed recently.

Really, that is amazing!! Our dealers here in Canada, or at least the regional ones we have here are mod-phobic, if it isnt genuine MB products, then I risk dealing with issues of warranty.

from the front page:
no way its getting near 197 in 11.2 sec
The SLS AMG GT still packs Mercedes ubiquitous 6.3-liter V8 AMG engine, and churns out a maximum of 591 horsepower at 6,800 rpm, with max torque pegged at 650 Nm (around 480 lb.-ft.). The car has a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds, and it takes a mere 11.2 seconds for the car to reach its top speed of 197 mph.
