Video Shows New Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Coupe Test Unit
We’ve already seen a host of Mercedes-AMG GT four-door models. So why is this one wearing heavy camo?
It was only a few months ago when a new line of Mercedes-AMG GT four-door models bowed at the Geneva Motor Show. Since then, we’ve seen a number of GT 53, 63, and 63 S preproduction mules testing at the Nurburgring. But those mules weren’t wearing any camo, and why would they? Heck, we’d already seen them in Geneva. So why would the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door in this spy video from YouTuber walkoARTvideos be wearing such a heavy disguise?
Presumably, the answer to that question is that it’s a new model that we haven’t seen before. Perhaps a high-performance variant that will debut later in the new car’s life cycle. The video wagers that this could be a Mercedes-AMG GT 73, the flagship of this Porsche Panamera fighter lineup. But if you look closely, this particular car sports only two exhaust tips. The 63 and 63 S, on the other hand, both have the typical Mercedes angular quad tips.
Still, it’s hard to tell exactly what this mule might be hiding underneath. Mercedes recently trademarked a slew of “73” model names, including G 73, GLS 73, and S 73. Since then, rumors have swirled that 73 will designate vehicles carrying a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and hybrid combo powertrain producing over 800 horsepower.
This new Mercedes-AMG GT mule doesn’t appear to be sporting that exciting drivetrain under its flanks. But who knows? M-B could also be playing mind games with us by affixing puny exhaust tips out back. Regardless, this video is proof of at least one thing. There is in fact another GT four-door model in the works. Whether that’s a Panamera-killing machine or simply some cost-effective base model? Well, that remains to be seen.
