Mercedes Celebrates Milestone with GT 63 S-inspired Race Boat
AMG marks 12 years of Cigarette Racing with GT 4-door coupe inspired boat set to debut at the Miami International Boat Show, Feb 14.
Any time Mercedes introduces a new model, it’s obviously something we stand and take note of. But the latest tease the automaker has graced us with via Facebook is, well, a little different. Instead of the kind of machine you might cut apexes on, this exciting new model is more adept at making wake. We’re talking, of course, about a boat. But this isn’t just any old fishing vessel – not by a long shot.
Mercedes is celebrating its 12th consecutive year in Cigarette Racing, an impressive achievement indeed. So they plan on marking that occasion with the introduction of yet another special edition racing boat. This follow up to last year’s One-inspired 515 Project One carries a host of styling cues lifted from the new GT 63 S four-door coupe.
As of now, Mercedes is staying tight-lipped about the specifications of this exciting new vessel. But last year’s 515 Project One was certainly no slouch, with twin Mercury Racing quad-cam V8 engines pumping out a combined 3,100 hp on race gas. That was good enough for a top speed of 140 mph, which is insanely quick for anything on water. Even on 91 octane, those engines still produced a healthy 2,700 hp.
Hopefully, this new boat also comes with “Pleasure” and “Race” keys like the 515 Project One that allow the owner to switch between the two. But for now, all we know is that Daimler design chief Gorden Wagener penned the design while Cigarette Racing handled the engineering aspects of the build. We’ll find out the rest when this beautiful new rig debuts on Valentine’s Day at the 2019 Miami International Boat Show. Which seems rather appropriate, because we’re already in love.
