Camo on Project ONE test mule almost makes you think Mercedes wants you to see the car.

Secrets are hard to keep, at least according to Mercedes. One secret recently let out is the development progress of the AMG hypercar thus dubbed Project One. Top Gear reports that the car’s noise, as it was circling England’s Millbrook Proving Ground,  has been so loud that Mercedes is having trouble keeping the car away from prying eyes.

Wearing suspiciously light camo, the Formula-1 derived hypercar appears to be in the final stages of testing. As such, we can take a look at some of the more interesting details at play.

Obviously with a car this powerful, it has to be sure-footed and nimble. Aero on the car appears to be minimal, at least in the way of a large rear wing. Instead, an incredibly deep diffuser can be seen, along with one large central rear exhaust for the 1.6 liter V6 hybrid engine. Ultimate output from the power unit is expected to be around the 1,000 mark, and the central fin that runs aft of the top mount intake is sure to provide stability.

Up front, things become a bit curious. Just in front of the cowl is an open area where some components can be seen. One of which looks like a sideways mounted coil spring. This would seem to confirm the wild suspension layout of the concept, which incorporates a push-rod and bellcrank style design. If that ends up making it on to the production car as planned, it would essentially give the car one spring and damper for movements in the pitch axis, and the other for the roll axis. That’s suspension tech that’s purely out of the Formula 1 playbook, and we really can’t wait to see how the rest of the car comes together.

Fortunately, Top Gear was able to snag a bunch of awesome shots of the AMG Project ONE, which you can find here.
