The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing originally owned by the Hollywood legend Clark Gable which was featured in the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction on January 19. Both Clark Gable and the car itself are icons of their time. It was expected to sell for over $2 million at the auction, but bidding stalled at $1.9 million. The car was not sold due to the reserve it carried. But later on, it was eventually sold for $1.85 million.
While the Ocean Drive concept from 2007 gave glimpses of what it would be like to drive around in a four-door S-Class convertible, it seems that such a car will remain exactly that, a concept. We now know that the upcoming S-Class will have a convertible in its lineup, although it will be a 2-door version.
However, a 4-door convertible is not in the works for now because as anyone beholden to cars knows, concept to showroom is a far step, involving engineering, market studies, safety tests, etcetera, etcetera. In the case of a four-door convertible for the soon-to-be-released S-Class, it seems that it will be the engineering challenge that will prevent the car from making it to production.
Although today’s SLS AMG isn’t as unique for having its gullwing doors as its original predecessor the 300SL, said doors give the SLS AMG its hallmark style. Anyone who rolls in an SLS AMG definitely has a sense of style, not to mention a healthy dose of gray matter for being able to afford one.
Mercedes-Benz USA, via its YouTube channel, teased a commercial that’s set to be fully shown during the broadcast of Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3. The spot stars the new Mercedes-Benz CLA alongside 2012 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model Kate Upton.
The teaser lasts over a minute and a half, so that should give us an indication that the actual spot could be much longer. In the preview, Upton is shown posing and blowing bubbles in a car wash, but it’s not exactly what you’d expect when you hear the keywords “Kate Upton” and “car wash” together in one sentence.

AMG Chief Executive Officer Ola Källenius gave some information on the soon-to-be-released Business Line option of the 2014 E63 AMG. He indicated that it will be offered by the Performance Studio of AMG and will be limited to the European market only.
The design of the luxury car will be adjusted to give it a look similar to the standard E-Class through the upcoming package from AMG. Consumers will notice the absence of the quad exhaust system on the modified 2014 E63 AMG after it will be offered in the Business Line package.

Caught testing in Sweden, this GLA, which of course doesn’t have any AMG badging on it, was given away by its big brakes, dual exhausts and unusual ride height. Based on the […] More »
That the latest E63 AMG is a superlative car is already a given, having 560 on tap in a “family” sedan. German car enthusiasts know that Mercedes is pitting this car squarely against Audi and BMW. Many may disagree, but the latest iteration of AMG’s mid-size hammer is the best looking of the current super sedans. With gaping intakes at the front and an engine note that can come only from a large V8, this ersatz family car will scare more than small kids.
