Commercial Break: W123 Drift Machine

So I’ve been bingeing on the Japanese Anime, Initial D. The show features a Toyota Sprinter Trueno, or, more commonly known as an AE86. In the show, the “8-6” is driven to the many prefectures of Japan and raced on mountain pass courses against other Japanese domestics. The show has a heavy dose of drift racing and drift culture, so, I naturally went digging for a Mercedes-Benz drift car for this weeks’ MBWorld commercial break. When I went digging, I found this gem.

None of those things scream drift culture. I’m not sure if this guy is just stubborn and wanted to be the ultimate counter-culture drift racer and drive a Benz to, or it was the only car he could afford, but here is a Mercedes W123 drift car.

Built in Finland and raced all over Scandinavia this W123 is famous in the Baltic region. The driver as you will see at the end of the video looks, let’s say…enthusiastic to drive his car. It’s a diesel engine. It is turbo charged. It is supercharged to have no lag. It has nitrous injection.

This man is legend. His car is legend. I don’t want to say the AE86 in Initial D has nothing on this dude, but, seriously this thing is just stupid awesome. You can visit their team website here.
