What is it Really Like Driving a $1.5-Million G650 Maybach Landaulet?

By -

Oh, we know the answer to this one. It is incredible!

There are some rare Mercedes that are so out reach, we can only look–not touch. Certainly, the Mercedes G650 Maybach Landaulet easily falls into that category. The Mercedes-Maybach G-Wagen is renowned for its sumptuous extravagance, undeniable performance, and its exclusivity. (Which is really our nice way of saying its huge $1.5 million dollar price tag.) In addition to all that, it is a rare find as only 99 units were ever produced.

Alex Hirschi, known as Supercar Blondie got the chance to drive to G650 Maybach Laudaulet for her popular YouTube channel. And yes, we’re certainly jealous. But we still can’t resist enjoying watching from the sidelines.

As for the G650 she will be driving, it owned by Mechatronik. Pascal Stephen, repping for Mechatronik, joins her in Frankfurt, Germany for a little roadtrip. When she finds out that their riding in a Maybach Laudaluet, she is stunned, and thrilled. Although, she warns them that she’s only ever driven under a mile in one before.

But first, the ride.

With the G650 Laudaulet, Mercedes has taken the concept of an off-road capable SUV to extravagant lengths. One feature that is a show-stopper is the semi-converible roof. With the press of a button, the top folds down, giving rear passengers a drop top experience.

Hirschi does remark that the trunk isn’t actually as big as she expected. Looks pretty big to us. Well, we suppose $1.5 million dollars just doesn’t go as far as it used to. Stephan drives so Hirschi can enjoy the full passenger experience.

Powered by a 650 hp twin-turbo V12, it packs a torquey punch of 738 lb-ft. It truly rides like a beast. The interior is pretty mind-blowing. Hirschi has an excess of leg room, and there seems to be no end to amenities. The limousine-like seating in the back is just incredibly lush. Adding to that theme is a folding window that separates the driver from the backseat. Naturally, this is controlled by the press a button and includes and option for window to go opaque for privacy.

Technology is everywhere. And there are many storage options; including a fold out mini-desk in the back seat. Which she takes advantage of, doing some work on the ride.

They reach an airport, where Hirschi gets an opportunity to get behind the wheel. And it is truly a thrilling ride. Off-road chops meets Mercedes magnificence–awesome.

As always, Hirschi’s videos are a lot of fun and a lot of information. Check out the video for the full experience. It might just get to be the closest we’ll come to a Maybach G650.
