Still Humming: High-Mileage, Clean-as-Can-Be 190 E

This 190 E Has Practically “Made It to the Moon,” but Looks Like It’s Fresh Off the Production Line

With the 190 E gaining on cult status, clean examples are popping up here and there. Prices though, don’t really reflect how much we love them. Or at least that seems to be the case with this one. We found this blue-on-grey beauty for sale just outside of Chicago. While it has clicked off an impressive 221,000 miles, you’ll be hard pressed to find any evidence.

Inside, the leather is still in astonishing condition. The dashboard doesn’t have any cracks at all, and the fabulous two-tone paint is almost flawless. California was this 1992 190 E’s home for its first 22-years on the road, which goes a long way in explaining the rust-free condition in rust-central Chicago.

Under the hood, things look even more impressive. A clean engine bay houses the M103 engine, and conditions there match the rest of the car. There is, however, an issue: a chat with the owner reveals there’s a slight hesitation under heavy throttle loads. Diagnosing that problem shouldn’t be too difficult, but fingers are crossed that it will be a budget-friendly repair.

Priced at $1,995, this 190 E seems like more than a fair deal. So much so that your faithful author will be going to see it in person after completing this article. Will his AMG have an additional stablemate? So far, signs are looking good.
