Keke Rosberg’s Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II DTM Racecar On Track

With a high-strung four-cylinder singing at almost 9,000 RPM, this DTM Mercedes’ exhaust note will blow your mind.

It takes this car a few cranks of the ignition to get it fired up, but once it’s running the fun really begins. Down in the lower RPM ranges, at idle and transiting down the pit lane, this big-displacement four isn’t exactly the most sonorous, but once the car joins the track and starts really belting out its melody, it’s a whole different car.

It is a true treat to see this car still being thrashed at full chat on track. This is part of the joy of vintage racing days. Thankfully it was captured on video by those responsible for the 19Bozzy92 YouTube channel.

Monza is a really big circuit, and there is plenty of straightaway for this car to open up its taps all the way. With just 990 kilograms, this sedan racer is a lightweight monster of a car, and it has about 340 horsepower on tap to haul that weight around with. You wouldn’t normally think a big German sedan would make for a great racing car, but Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaften in the early 1990s was an insane breeding ground for some of the best drivers, cars, and engines to grace motorsport. Today the series is basically Formula 1 with doors, but back in these days, the cars were actually a little bit production based.

The video itself is only 4 minutes and 36 seconds, so pop that “full screen” button and turn up your headphones, because you’re in for a Mercedes-delivered aural treat.
