The F1-inspired Mercedes-AMG One doesn’t just sound amazing, it’s also resetting production car records everywhere it goes.

We’ve been waiting what feels like forever for the Mercedes-AMG One to arrive, mainly because it isn’t every day that a new hypercar comes along – let alone one packing a Formula 1 inspired powertrain that’s a pure engineering feat in its own regard. In fact, the One is essentially just a street-legal F1 car with a bit more bodywork and amenities, because it’s powered by a screaming 1.6-liter V6 with an 11,000 rpm redline and four electric motors, churning out a combined 1,048 horsepower. Thus, it’s no surprise that the Mercedes-AMG One just keeps breaking production car lap records everywhere it goes, with the latest being Monza.

After resetting that record at the Nürburgring, Red Bull Ring, and Hockenheim, the Mercedes-AMG One headed to Italy, this time with factory driver Maro René Engel behind the wheel. When all was said and done, he recorded a best lap time of 1 minute and 43.902 seconds, which is roughly 12 seconds faster than the previous record-holder at this specific track – the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which took 1 minute and 55.30 seconds to complete that same feat.

Some will undoubtedly wonder if the One accomplished this record-breaking performance with any sort of deviations from its road spec, but that isn’t the case – the car was even wearing its special factory Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tires. Sadly, however, Mercedes hasn’t released any footage of this record-breaking feat, just a handful of photos from that memorably day. Regardless, we’ll take it, as we’ve heard what this amazing machine sounds like before.

This is obviously exciting news for the lucky few that managed to secure their own copy of the Mercedes-AMG One, of which just 275 total will be built at an eye-watering cost of $2.72 million – particularly for a car that has to have its engine rebuilt every 31,000 miles. But it isn’t exactly every day that anyone other than a select few talented racers get to slip behind the wheel of something this special, making the One worth every penny.
