Delving Further Into Mercedes-AMG’s Potential Ferrari 488 Fighter

488

There hasn’t been a mid-engine AMG since, well, ever. Unless you count the very bespoke CLK-GTR — or the C1000 for the Mercedes elite, which will breathe fire down my neck if I don’t mention it — there hasn’t been a direct fight against the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan or the Ferrari 488. The AMG GT is an amazing car, but leave no doubts, it’s a car meant more for the exclusive sports car category rather than an exotic car title.

We reported recently about Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers saying that a potential F1-inspired, dedicated AMG model could be in the works. Banking on their success in Formula 1, which can only be described as dominant, powerful, commanding, and omnipresent (except when the boys take each other out), it makes sense that AMG would want to make a road-car that can compete with the road-going versions of the cars from Italy and England.

With the clever minds behind the F1 cars, the performance of an AMG exotic car would be the bar by which all others would be measured, and hopefully some of the AMG lunacy would reside. We won’t see the magic of the M157 motor, but perhaps if the engineers are allowed to play a bit, we’ll have something that’ll give you the giggles just as fast as it can get to 60 mph.
