Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss Street Car for Sale!

This 2009 SLR Stirling Moss is off the awesome/impractical chart.

The SLR Stirling Moss is one of the single coolest technically-street-legal automobiles to ever have been created. It doesn’t have a roof, but it does have a whole hell of a lot of character and presence — perhaps second to none. While it is based on the SLR platform launched way back in 2003, this was the exciting and wild series finale send-off that it needed. Nobody really needs a supercar, but you can at least make a case for driving a normal SLR on a regular basis. Of course, in order to buy one of the 75 Stirling Moss editions built, you already had to own a standard SLR anyhow. This version does not have a roof or a windshield, making it the least practical Merc to ever be built, by our measure. Of course, that is the joy of such an automobile.

Moss, as we all know, won the Mille Miglia race in the original Sport Leicht Rennsport. This rarity was built specifically to commemorate that 1955 win. Even though the car has that connection to motorsport, Mercedes did not race the SLR, or the Sterling Moss-style roofless model, in any racing series at the time. This was purely a toy for the ultra wealthy, and the last eight years have done nothing to change that. This car did not depreciate, it has only continued to gain value as time passed. This car is currently for sale in Munich, Germany, and while it doesn’t have an asking price, if you have to ask…

While you technically can have a passenger in this two-seater, that side of the car does not even have a wind screen. Some of us might have a hard time convincing our significant others to sit there. Then again, it looks better with the hard tonneau cover fitted anyway. So go for a solo drive, and lose yourself in a great driving road for a few hours. Of course, you’ll have to wait for clear skies, though.
